We joined Julie at the Alaska State Fair for about 10 days. We had an awesome time there and we're very thankful to got the opportunity to have a "look behind the scenes" of a venodors life at a fair.
Julie is an awesome person, with which you can have nice talks, good hikes and very delicious food.
We helped to build up the booth and running it

I stayed with Julie for 7 weeks: I tended her gardens at her homestead and also went on an amazing road trip with her on the Alaskan highway. It was truly a trip of a lifetime - all the places that I wouldn't visit if I was just a tourist. I felt very integrated with the community in Haines. I made friends with a lot of young people in Haines, hiked the mountains, and visited the museums. The trail is an easy beginner's hike. I recommended hiking up to the summit to see a panoramic view of Haines. I also took the fast ferry to Skagway where I learned more about the gold rush history. This is where you will learn more about all the animals that live in the forest. I enjoyed my work in the gardens because I got to learn so much about plants and how to grow my vegetables. I appreciate learning more about where my food, water, and electricity come from and how to live sustainability with nature during my time with Julie. Haines will always have a special place in my heart <3 Julie made it so fun! I already miss it so much.

We stayed with Julie for 3 weeks in July and had too much fun. We worked on a couple of projects, some on our own and others with Julie. We enjoyed our projects and working with Julie is

Meredith and I had a truly wonderful and relaxing time at Julie's this spring. Her quaint homestead offered an awe inspiring view every time you walk outside. We could not get over the fantastic weather, view, and company. Her nice house and small trailer accommodations made the stay incredibly comfortable for any person who wants a independent
… read more and relaxing stay in Haines, AK. Not only is the town's quiet side very appealing for weary or easy travelers but also matches the forest oasis that is her homestead. Julie had a peaceful yard with fields of Lupin and Fireweed, frolicking bunnies enjoying themselves around the property, and birds all around. It felt like a little forest haven amongst the great spruce trees and coastal rainforest above.
Julie's description of accommodations were incredibly accurate and she was great with communication over the website and via text. The bed is comfy but snug for two people, so don't expect a ton of room. Julie is a wonderful cook and stocks food and snacks for all types of eaters. She made wonderful lunch salads and delicious whole food dinners. There was always a bit of privacy in the wonderful sun room as well. The only downside is that the neighbors were pretty obnoxious and loud.
Julie is hands on for big jobs but also flexible and gives you space to figure out your own project and work schedule. Our daily work involved watering 2 times a day, and flexing some creative freedom in building a rock staircase up to the hiking trial. We got to help pick out rocks from across the bay, split a few cords of firewood, and did some general garden maintenance in the week that we stayed here.
Julie was like our guide even though we had our own transportation. She took us out for paddling on the Chilkoot Lake, hiking on the hill, and even giving us a chance to view the brown bears near the road when possible. Her local knowledge gave us a special experience we would have not gotten anywhere else. Again, she was incredibly flexible with us and gave us a day off for fun things!
Julie has incredible goals and aspirations. She shared advice, local knowledge and coffee with us as she welcomed us fully into her home and life. Getting to know here was very rewarding! You wont find Julie idling for long and she values when you put in the effort. She may not have a perfect manual of rules and guides for all her future projects or chores but she has basic overviews written down and is always there to answer your questions. We recommend this Workaway stay to someone who can enjoy finding things to do independently and who is open to trying new and exciting things. You may even want to plan on going when the season calls for certain work to be done with Julie.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Thank you Julie!! I stayed at Julies for about 5 weeks in August/September 2021. I had the unique opportunity to watch her homestead independently, with the company of her intelligent, kind-hearted son Koa, and for me this was perfect. Julie was easy to plan with. She picked me up from the ferry, and was so welcoming. The property has a million

Her spring water is delicious and she provided me with wonderful food to eat during my stay. Fresh veggies right from the garden, delicious fresh/smoked AND canned salmon (that she had canned herself). I honestly felt spoiled by her! I hiked, I biked, the woods are deep, wildlife is abundant, and there are astounding glaciers! I never got over how pretty it is in Haines, even on the cloudy days. I got the chance to harvest and dry crab apples, and on one very memorable evening helped her process some gorgeous Coho caught from the ocean that same day.
I fell in love with Haines, it's small and quaint yet has everything you need and the natural beauty is unmatched. World class hiking trails. The people I met were simply wonderful, kind and genuine. (shout out to Janet!) I know I will find my way back here someday.
If you are a good human and want to learn what it takes to make a life in this part of the world, while sharing wisdom, coffee, and jokes, ;) please don't hesitate to work and stay with Julie. She is an absolute gem of a woman, hard-working, generous, whip smart and funny to boot, the camper living space is adorable and very comfortable, and the time we spent together was soul-healing and inspiring.
I am so very grateful. Namaste Julie, and see you next time. <3 <3 <3Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

I had a wonderful (altough short) time with Julie! Totally loved her amaaazing hippie dippie homestead! The enthusiasm, determination and hard work that she puts into her projects is really admirable. She created and built something really wonderful :) I felt really inspired only after couple of days, by learning about self-sufficient living,

I also really appreciate how I was able to learn a lot about Haines and get to know the local community.. it really felt like I'm getting the most of the local experience which is something I was really looking for. Haines is SO gorgeous, from all places I visited in Alaska probably my favourite so far. I really recommend to go by ferry and seaplane to see the beauty of this place from both sea and air. Both were unforgettable experiences for me and I fulfilled my mission to see whales!!
It was honestly the best way for me to experience life in Southeast Alaska from the perspective of local, who also believes in the same life values and has something to teach me about my desired way of living. It feels great to be able to support someone's lifestyle that you align with and get some meaningful experience.I really recommend staying with Julie especially because I feel that it can really help people to push themselves and try to do something cool with their lives like she did ^^ The experience of staying in Haines with Julie made me realize that it will be so hard to leave Alaska which I love deeply, but perhaps it will push me even harder into coming back! I would be so curisous what kind of hippie palace I would find there in Haines in a few years ;)Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Julie took me under her wing for about 5 weeks at the end of last summer. If the sun was out we were likely tending to the bounty, painting the house, chopping wood, or another task to prep for the winter AND then going out for an adventure in the sweet town of Haines. As fall began to approach we wired electricity in the new addition in the
