Description
We are Val (she/they) and Connie (she/her), sharing a life together full of play and hard work on our remote island homestead. Val is a counsellor, bodyworker, yoga teacher and aerial artist and Connie is an ecstatic dance facilitator and DJ, herbalist and spiritual healer. Guests must have positive attitudes about queer folk and we welcome LGBTQ+ visitors. We also have two cats, Puma and Panther, who will watch over your stay.
In our vibrant life there are many projects we could use a hand with. We live with the seasons and the work that we need help with changes from one month to the next. Depending on when you are here, you might be involved in gardening, firewood, landscaping, or carpentry projects. Maybe harvesting berries and veggies, maybe planting them. This year we’ll be doing some small carpentry projects, continuing to grow a bounty of organic fruit and veggies. Connie is a bit of an expert on local wild mushrooms and harvesting wild foods with which we often supplement our diet.
Sometimes we host events in the geodesic dome on our property, that is still in progress to finish up, but depending on when you are here you would be welcome to participate in conscious dance, meditation or yoga classes on the property.

We live pretty simply with the land and from the land. We may be harvesting shellfish or wild mushrooms, making herbal medicines from garden plants, canning jams or pickles. We offer a glimpse into a way of life on the edges of things where wellness and quality of life are more important than consumerism. On Cortes Island we offer non-profit dance and art events to the community. As our guest, we would love to take you along to those events.

We have beginner level Spanish speaking but would be keen to practice and learn. Connie also has spend lots of time with people who are learning English and is happy to support.
Hébergement
We have the options of tenting on our property or staying in a small furnished cabin depending on your preferences. Bathroom and kitchen use are in the main house where Val and Connie live. Meals we will figure out with each guest what works best for their needs. There is no shortage of healthy and delicious food here. Maybe this is a good place to mention that we also have a room mate who shares the house facilities but lives in a separate small cabin.

Autres infos...
On Cortes Island there are many beautiful beaches and forest walks, lots of nature but not many urban conveniences such as restaurants or public transportation. It takes two ferries from Vancouver Island to get here so it’s best to be prepared for a bit of an adventure. Cortes Island is a little community and very welcoming to visitors who make the effort to get here. As our visitor we will show you some of the magical nature spots that Cortes Island is famous for.

Val works online as a counsellor. We have good internet, however in the winter months it can go out for a day or two at a time due to winter storms, You can get around this by having a large phone GB plan and creating a hotspot from your phone. Be prepared to do this if the power goes out.

Espace pour garer des vans
We have a beautiful pad at the back of our homestead, nestled in cedar trees, for campervans and campers. Currently there is no water or hydro service to the pad, however that is one of our upcoming projects. You can also use the kitchen and bathroom in the house as most of our visitor and our room mate does.
