  Description

  Hello! We live in a small, picturesque village in central Slovakia and we are looking for someone or couple of people interested in accompanying a group of elementary school children in a summer camp. The camp will be one week long, but few consecutive camps are possible. The volunteer would be expected to interact with children (English conversations, games, arts and crafts) daily between 8 am - 12 pm; all afternoons and weekends (if applicable) are free to explore the region, which is great for nature walks, mountain / trail biking, running, horse riding, etc. You would be accommodated in the local primary school, with all meals provided.

  This would be great opportunity for someone interested in spending time with and around children, spending time in nature while having opportunity to get to know locals and their way of life. This is a small village, many local people here are hobby farmers and live simple life. Many people move to this area because of its beautiful nature, clean air and generally slower and less stressful lifestyle. You will be treated as part of our family (we are a couple in our late 30s / mid 40s, with two children, 10 and 7), but at the same time have as much independence in your free time as you may require and wish for.

  Aide

  We would like to find someone who is comfortable and interested in spending time with elementary school aged children. Teaching experience or experience working with children is an asset. Up to 15 children will attend the the summer camp that would take place in the first two weeks of July between 8 am - 12 pm Monday to Friday and as volunteer you would be expected to spend this time with children, conversing in English (correcting major errors, helping them increase their vocabulary and confidence in speaking English), playing (indoor and outdoor), and - if this is your thing - doing arts and crafts, music etc. A Slovak speaking teacher will be present at all times, so you would not be alone. Our main goal is to provide the children an opportunity to interact with people from other cultures, in English, and improve their confidence and communication skills, while being in a safe and fun environment.

  Hostel style accommodation (though no kitchen) is provided directly in the primary school. All meals will be provided) at the school and / or by the hosts.

  The area we live in is beautiful, rural area with great opportunities for walking, running, biking, horse riding. The village has about 500 inhabitants, the closest towns are Hrinova, 6 km (population 7 000 ) , Zvolen 45 km, (population 40 000) or Banska Bystrica 50 km (population 80 000). There are bus connections several times a day to these towns, or you could get a ride with the hosts.
