Description
Hi, we've moved to Nairobi, Kenya, from San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Madrid, Spain.
Join our family in beautiful Kenya! You can stay in our home and explore this amazing country in exchange for helping me with my daughters.
We are a family of 3. I'm Carmela, Spanish and have 2 daughters. Candela, who is 12 years old and Amanda, 8.
We are from Spain, a small town close to Madrid called San Lorenzo de El Escorial (UNESCO Heritage Site) but this year we’ve moved to Nairobi, Kenya. I am working here at the UN headquarter. Nairobi is an exciting city where you can learn and do a lot. We live in Runda, a relaxing estate with the Karura forest, a beautiful park, nearby. Runda is a rather safe estate in Nairobi, and we live in house with a big garden to play in.
Amanda speaks German, English and Spanish, and Candela speaks English and Spanish. It would be amazing if you would be able to speak both languages with them. They both love to play in the garden, read together or play lots of board games.
In exchange we can offer you a private room, you would share the bathroom with the girls. Additionally, we try to be active on the weekends and explore Nairobi and Kenya. You are welcome to join us, but you can also use your weekends however you like.
Because of my job I'm very used to meeting new people and living together and we as a family really enjoy getting to know different cultures and people.
We stay in Kenya until the end of 2023 and the longer you can stay the better, kids get attached easily :)

Because of my work at the United Nations, we´ve travelled a lot and are, indeed, a multicultural family. We´re open minded and tolerant and always ready to learn about others´traditions

Aide
I need your help in the mornings getting the kids ready and joining on the car ride to school. And then in the afternoon by playing or reading with them and practicing their German/English. They start school at 8.00am, finish at 5pm and have lunch at school.
The idea is to speak in English as a first option when they’re together and speaking German with Amanda.
We have someone helping us with the household and cooking, so we do not expect you to take care of that, but of course, help us on a day-to-day basis like we also do (pick up the table, clothes, order toys after playing with girls, etc ...). Additionally, it would be great if you could help with cooking sometimes.

You can use your time off however you like. During the day our former workawayer volunteered in a school in a slum near-by. We can help you to find a working/volunteering opportunity for you. On the weekends you can do lots of weekend/day trips from Nairobi. For example visit the Nairobi national park, Maasai Mara, Mombasa or even the Victoria Lake. There are also interesting activities in or around the city, such as Street Art tours, hiking trips or visiting Maasai villages. In general there is a lot to do and see and Nairobi is the perfect place to meet new people and cultures.

Some of my volunteers used to be digital nomads and that was never a problem. We have good internet and i can offer you a quiet workspace where no one is gonna interrupt :)
