    Description

    Hi there!

We get quite many requests, so please read the whole profile/listing before contacting us. We only concider personal applications, following the '' how to apply" instructions below.

If you are above 25 years old, serious, self-motivated and easy going, we can offer a great stay and accsess to some of the most beutiful nature in Norway. Basically you will be welcome to take part in our beutiful life up here. In return we only expect you to help out with any daily choirs we have on the agenda, or whatever project we are busy with. You help us, and we get more sparetime time to show you around and teach you about the culture and ways of life up here. You'll also get home cooked meals and an opportunity to learn about cooking, baking, foraging etc.

Experince from running your own household, living as an independent adult and keeping a job is a must. You also need to be able to comunicate in english. Experience from cleaning jobs, painting, renovation and/or from gardening is a pluss. We are not very handy ourselves so we always like hosting someone who has practical knowledge/skills.

The help needed is little and easy, but no matter how small or meaningless a task might seem, we want it to be done with commitment, thorughness and care. Most of the time the main tasks will be to help us keep the house nice and clean. At summer there is some gardening to do. We expect you to be self motivated, see what needs to be done when, and offer to help out by your own initiative. We are also open to suggestions on how we can improve our two homes. Please let us know how you think you can contribute.

Prefereably you can stay between 3 weeks and two months. The first two weeks will always be a trial period to see if we are a good match.

You shouldn't smoke, do drugs or have unhealthy drinking habits. We do our best trying to understand, be tolerant and respectful to all cultures, personalities, identities and ideologies. So we expect the same from you.

We are hoping you will feel at home, and that this should be a reson to respect our daily routines and ways of doing things.

    A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US
We are Maggie and Magne, a couple in our ealry fourties. We both work full time jobs, and we have two homes to take care of. One in Bodø town, and one on beutiful Landegode Island. Maggie comutes between the two. You will mostly be based at Landegode, but sometimes we might ask you to come and help out in town.

Sometimes we have a lot of family and friends visiting. From time to time, we also rent out a few guestrooms (either in Bodø or at Landegode). Not for profit, but to help us pay the mortgages. So you should know that our homes sometimes can be a bit crowded.

    WHY WE ARE WORKAWAY HOSTS
As we are quit busy, but like things to be nice and neat around us, we simply need help taking care of our homes and gardens, so that we can get some more sparetime. We really like hosting- and the cultural exchange we gain from it. In other words: You help us out, and we get time to hang out, teach you about Norway and show you the region. You will be treated like family and get great homecooked meals.

    OUR BACKGROUNDS
Magne is from Bergen. He is a geographer/social scientist who now works as an senior advisor for a consulting agency. Previous he has been a consultant at the state reindeer-herding management in Nordland County. He has a lot of knowledge about the Sami-culture, norwegian beauracracy and politics.

Maggie is a Swedish citicent who grew up in Northern Norway. She is a social worker/historian/social anthropologist and a cook. Since 2011 she has been working with youths at an activity center for people coping with psyciatric illness. In 2020 she also got a part-time job at the local grocery store at Landegode island . Sometimes she helps the local community organisation (on the Island) to rent out a guesthouse and host events. She has diverse knowedge about anthropology, natur, foraging, cooking, food-persevation and baking.

We have also been a second home to our twin God-daughters aged 22. They stay in an other town, but is still part of our family.

We love to cook quality food with inspiration from all corners of the world. When we have time, we like spending time in nature. Depending on the season we do cook outs, picnics, hiking, swiming, kayaking, fishing or small roadtrips. All in all you will get to experience a piece of our life on the arctic circle and learn a lot about Norway.

    THE LOCATION AND THE CLIMATE

No need to fear the climate though. Summer temperatures are normally between 10-25 degrees celcius and at winter it is normally between -5 and +5 celcius. It rarly drops below 10 degrees and Norwegian homesare really warm and cozy.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

You'll get a small but comfy room at Landegode island, pluss free meals.

You will mainly stay at our Landegode home. Sometimes by yourself. Magdalena stays on the island half the week, Magne aproximatly every third weekend.

Landegode is a beutiful island only 25 minutes north of Bodø. It is accsessed by passengerboats 1-4 times per day, depending on which weekday it is. There are only 38 inhabitants on the island, mostly fishermen and their families. Our house is located in the peacefull and pleasant main village. The house has normal modern comfore, such as hot water and electricity. There are 6 cosy retrostyle bedrooms in the attic. Downstairs there is a comfy livingroom, a fully functional kitchen and a small shared bathrom with a bath tub. There is also a small garden, and a small patio. From time to time, our homes can be quite busy with family friends or guests. We also like to invite people over for dinner.

Wether we hav guests or not, you will always be having your own private room (either on the island or in town). We will provide all meals (normal dietary). You will also be able to use all the common areas, but should keep in mind that some of our guests somtimes might have first priority.

There is WiFi at the house but not enough for gaming, serie binging or uploading/downloading big files. Your phone might have 4G, but only if you are using the Telnor network. If you need a computer during your stay you should bring your own laptop.

At weekdays in town, we normaly get up at around 7 in the morning, grab ourselves something quick for breakfast and go to work. In the afternoons we have dinner together at around 5-6. Normally we go to bed between 10 o'clock and midnight. At the island, life is a bit more chilled. Magdalena only works 2.5 to 5 hours per day. Typically breakfast will be around 10 and dinner anytime between 6-8.30. Both places we expect the house to be quiet betwen 10 and 10. No parties and no guests unless this has been agreed on in advance. No drugs and only moderate drinking at our homes.

If there is not much work to do on the island, you can once in a while ask to join Magdalena and stay in town for a few days.

    LANDEGODE
This is a stunning beutiful island close to Bodø. There are not any facilities such as cafés, bars etc, but heaps of stunning beutifull wild nature! You can go on excursions and discover crazy rock formations, narrow passages, caves, quiet valleys, marshes or white coral beaches.

We keep two kayaks here. If you have some experience and/or prove to be good at it, we might lend you one. There is also an old bike to use when ever you feel like it. The road stretches only 9 km. So walking or paddeling might be a better option. This is the perfect place if you enjoy life at a slow pace, and if you like to explore wild untouched nature. It is just as beautiful as Lofoten, but yet to be discovered by tourists. A lot of the time you will not meet a single soul on your hikes.

There are no dangerous animals, but the terrain can be a bit tricky if you are not used to it. The weather can also change quickly. Obviously we will help you plan your excursions and make sure you feel safe, befor sending you off alone.

    BODØ
A medium-sized Norwegian town, just above the artic-circle. This is where the Norwegian railroad ends, and you can also easily get here by plane or by boat. The town is surrounded by georgues natur like clear blue sea, white coral-beaches and peaky mountains. It is a great base for hiking, biking, kayaking, sailing, fishing, climbing or other outdoor activities.

There are also a few nice cafees, bars and restaurants in town as well as some small galleries and a few museums. Bodø is also the best gateway to the famous Lofoten Islands, beutiful Kjerringøy, and the worlds fastest tide-water male-stream Saltstraumen. Svartisen glacier is only a few hours drive away. If you enjoy spending time in nature, you will definetly enjoy Bodø!

Our Bodø-neighbourhood is a typical small-town suburb-looking residential area in the outskirts of the so called central area of Bodø. You'll be only 10-30 minutes (walkable distance) away from anything the town has to offer:

    Airport: 15minute walk

Maskinisten (start point for different hike-routes including the easy accsessable Keiservarden, mountain-top with a 360 degree view): 40 min walk

Bodøsjøen (outdoor museeum, path along the shore and a popular spot for picnics): 40 min walk

The National Aviation Museeum: 15 min walk

Nordlandsbadet & Spectrum Velvære, (waterworld and spa): 15 min walk

Bustop with connection to almost anywhere: 7 min walk

    Supermarkets: 10 min walk
