I had a great time at Gertrude's farm. I stayed there for 16 days. There was a bit of an overlap with another workawayer so I had to sleep outside in a tent for a few days, since Gertrude only has one room for workawayers. This didn't bother me to much, the only problem was that it rained and stormed pretty heavily on those few days and it wasn't
… read more that easy to fall asleep. But since that wasn't anything Gertrude could do about, it wasn't too bad. On my first day there, Gertrude showed me around the farm and pointed out any projects she wants to do around the farm as well as things she might need help with. She let me choose which project I was most interested in, which was unearthing an overgrown stone pathway on the backside of the farm and later pulling out weeds in the vegetable garden and making it look presentable again. Usually at breakfast we would discuss what I would be doing that day and then she either told me what she needed help with, I asked on my own or worked on my desired projects. First I fed the chickens and then I usually started work around 10:00 a.m after eating breakfast and worked until 15:30 to 16:00 p.m with a lunch break in the middle. On the days where the weather got too hot I started work earlier since I often worked right under the sun (which gave me quite the nice tan and on one day even some sunburn). After the five hours of work I always had free time and would often bike around the neighborhood or just chill in my tent and later room.
We always ate together and all meals were provided. Gertrude's daughter also usually joined us at dinner as well as the other workawayer while she was still there. I could decide on my own when I wanted to have my two free days so I usually had a free day on the weekend and one in the middle of the week. One day I got to drive with Gertrude to where she had to work and I got to look around in Haarlem and Alkmaar which was really great. The animals on the farm were great company as well and especially the cats were really affectionate and sweet to me.
All in all I had a great time and would recommend Gertrude to anyone who likes to explore more of the countryside of the Netherlands since it is more of a rural area. We had a lot of great conversations and I enjoyed her company immensely. I didn't really get to practice much Dutch but since talking in English was just easier for me I also didn't come forward with such a wish. I'm sure if you communicate beforehand that you would like to learn more Dutch Gertrude will be delighted to help you out.
Once again I can highly recommend you seek Gertrude out and help around her lovely farm. It was a delight to stay with you!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

We had a wonderful time with Gertrude and his daughter. They are kind and friendly. The two weeks we spent together flew by.
Gertrude gave us all the information we needed.
The house and surroundings are beautiful. We mostly helped in the garden and she even taught us how to paint.
We are really happy for the time we spent together and for all

I stayed with Gertrude for about 3 weeks during March and really enjoyed my stay there. Gertrude was a very friendly host, we got along well and Aartswoud is a pretty, small village located in the beautiful dutch countryside, especially during spring, where I was lucky enough to see the tulips of the Netherlands.
There is a lot of work to be done
… read more around the farm, but it was very comfortable to stay. My work hours and days were flexible and the jobs I did were varied and mostly in the garden: I prepared a vegetable garden, cut the hedges, cleared the yard, did some weeding etc. and also helped with some light construction work inside the house. All in all easy enough jobs, and I am happy to have learned some new, practical skills and Gertrude was always there to lend a helping hand :).
Even though Aartswoud is quite small, there is still easy enough access to the next train stations, if you want to visit cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam or Den Haag. Gertrude was also very helpful in giving tips or giving lifts to get to places. Otherwise you can also go for bike trips around the area. So there is definitely enough sightseeing to be done.
I had a great time and can recommend Gertrude as a host and wish her and the next workawayers all the best with the future projects!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.
