Description
My name is Yeldos and I live in a Kazakh village 50 km east of Almaty. It's located near a small rural town Esik. I live with my wife, Gulnara and our youngest daughter, Raya, who is 15.
Our passion is living in the village and helping our local community develop. For many years we have been raising chickens and selling fresh eggs. We helped many people we know to launch the egg business to sustain themselves.
Now we have 1 hectare of land on which we built our small house. This summer we put a yurt on our land and hosted different groups of locals who wanted get out of Almaty to experience fresh air and good fellowship.
We constantly need help with different construction tasks.

We hope that while staying with our family, the Workawayers will learn about the life of a simple Kazakh family in the countryside. Living in a yurt, they will be able to experience the culture of nomadic peoples. During the joint work and the common meal, we will tell the Workawayers about our country, about the history and culture of the Kazakhs and other peoples. For example, more than twenty nationalities live together in our village.
We are a Kazakh family. We speak Kazakh and Russian and some English. We eat and cook Kazakh food and we can teach you to cook it too. You can practice your Kazakh or Russian with us. You can live in the Yurt like a kazakh and meet our friends and neighbors.
Aide
We need different kinds of help depending on the season and on what's going on at the moment. I'll list just a few:
- helping with chicken (distribute food to chickens on the mornings, pour water into drinkers, collect eggs (on frosty days every 15-20 minutes),
- preparing winter facilities for the chickens (if necessary, repair feeders, add litter and other unforeseen minor tasks),
- building a barn for the cattle,
- firewood preparation,
- clean snow in the yard and paths,
- take care of the sheep (feed and water twice a day),
- help related to transportation and installation of a container for housing.
Our work schedule (may change sometimes):
07.00-08.00 helping with chicken
08.00-09.00 breakfast
09.00-12.00 work
12.00 lunch and free time
18.00 dinner

My wife and I want to study languages in depth, especially English. Our children, neighbors and friends will also be happy to practice new languages.
Hébergement
We have a yurt that stands in our yard in a secluded and safe place. There is a sofa in the yurt, and if necessary, we can add another one. The yurt also has a table for eating or working, a gas stove, a cupboard for dishes, a refrigerator, lighting, and Wi-Fi. The door can be locked if needed.
⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: the yurt is not insulated or heated, and Bolek is very cold between OCTOBER and beginning of MARCH Staying in the yurt at this time of year is only suitable if you have proper winter camping gear (sleeping bags, warm clothing, thermal layers) and are prepared to be cold, especially at night.
Men’s bathroom and outdoor shower are available. For women, there is a toilet and shower in the host’s house. Clean bedding is provided and can be changed when necessary.
We are ready to provide three meals a day. If the Workawayer wishes, we can share meals together, or we can provide ingredients if they prefer to cook for themselves.
Since many people travel with minimal luggage, if you wish, we can provide clean change of clothes and shoes for work. Be free to ask us, we will be glad to serve.
Autres infos...
Bolek can be reached by public transport from Almaty. Take bus number 225 from Almaty to Esik, then a short taxi ride will bring you to Zhastar Street. From there, it’s just a short walk to our house.
Bolek is a beautiful village at the foot of the Alatau mountain range. Within an hour’s drive, you can visit Essik Lake as well as the Bear and Turgen Waterfalls.
