Description
The school is located in the lovely town of Cofradia, Cortes, near to the Caribbean coast of Honduras. We aim to offer a top-quality, affordable bilingual education to our children and a level of community support and involvement that does not exist in the local public schools. Many of our kids come from very low socio-economic backgrounds and thanks to our volunteers we are able to offer them a free or low cost bilingual education they could not otherwise afford. Being bilingual in Honduras is a massive advantage and gives our students the chance to end the cycle of poverty for themselves and for their families.
In order to offer a free or low cost education to our students, we are reliant on foreign volunteers coming to teach with us throughout the year. The school is founded on the principle that education empowers students to lead lives of their own creation. Students who attend our school become responsible, motivated, and passionate people ready to build a brighter future for themselves, their community and their country.
Our school has been educating the students of Cofradia for over 20 years and follows The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Our volunteers are required to plan lessons, however, we have an effective and easy to use curriculum in place for our teachers as well as textbooks and other material.
Our volunteers love working with the students at our school as well as creating bonds with fellow teachers. At any one time we normally have between 5 and 10 volunteers teaching with us. Our volunteers typically spend the time after school together and often travel together at the weekends. A typical afternoon can be cooking together, watching a movie using our projector or walking to the local river. Our volunteers come for the students but often leave with life long friends.
All volunteer-taught classes are conducted in English, so Spanish-language skills are not required. Prior teaching experience is not required to work at our school. While experience in education is certainly beneficial, we place more importance on highly passionate and dedicated volunteers who want to make a difference in the lives of our students.
We are currently looking for volunteer English teachers for the 2023/2024 school year. Our school year starts in August 2023 and runs until June 2024. We prefer volunteers who can make a time commitment of at least 3 months to the school. Please note that we are unfortunately unable to cover flight costs for volunteers.
We provide volunteers with housing in a shared volunteer house just 5 minutes from the school. The housing includes several shared rooms with AC, a fully equipped kitchen and several bathrooms. Volunteers receive breakfast and lunch at school as well as a 160 US$ monthly stipend. We also provide transportation to and from the airport or bus terminal. Additionally, we cover any costs associated with visa extensions, as well as any medical expenses incurred while working with the school.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

One of the best parts being here is the endless opportunities it offers to get to know and serve the students and the community of Cofradia. This will give real satisfaction, and at the same time you will enjoy being here interacting with the local people. The community is very welcoming and holds our volunteer teachers in high regard. Many of our teachers spend time with the families of students outside of school hours which allows them to be truly immersed in Honduran culture. It is commonplace for mothers to have us over for cooking lessons or for families to take us on day long excursions to explore the surrounding mountains. In addition, due to the friendly nature of local people, this is the ideal place to practice speaking Spanish.

Normally, volunteers teachers are expected to be at school from 7:00am - 2:10pm. This time includes recess, lunch, and multiple free periods. Teachers are required to plan, prepare, and teach lessons to their pre-determined grade. Resource teachers work with classroom teachers to work with small groups or individual students that need extra attention and instruction.Langues
