Description
Hello Volunteers, Namaste, Shalom. We are Biju and Dinesh, working to promote non violence, gender equality, protecting Biodiversity and educating children and training women in various skills like making cotton and silk textiles for over 25 years.
Dinesh was working in Uttarakhand earlier who has joined us to help us in our activities. Therefore we have decided to continue the name t for the purpose of Workaway .
Biju is married to an Army Officer and has one 5 years old daughter Nandini and supported by Gautam Saikia , a young man of 25 years. dinesh is married to Uma and has two children , on daughter Suhany who is studying Sustainable environment in TUM Munich Germany and one son Shaleen who is working as a junior scientist in R&D centre of Hindustan Petroleum at Banglore.
Primarily we are engaged in the activities of holistic education for children in one of the remote area of Indian state Assam located on Bhutan border since 1998. We have 8 small schools having around 800 children who learn horticulture, theatre, story narrating and cultural exchange with other communities as we have different tribes and communities speaking different languages and different dance forms.
Most of the children are from age 5 to age 15 or so. Our dream is to develop them as good human beings who will create a world free from biases of religion, caste, colour, gender and region . We would like you to have a dialogue with the children on biodiversity, environmental issues, astronomy, and the symbiotic relationship that we have with the nature.
Our other concern is to protect and conserve native plants and trees and the seeds of native vegetables and grains which are under big onslaught from the big seed companies.
At present we are celebrating our biggest and most colorful festival Bihu which begins with collecting 101 different vegetables from the forest and cooking one dish with all of them. we don't know if such diversity of plant based food exists in any pat of the world. Is it not really not amazing.
In order to disseminate more knowledge to the children we seek help from volunteers who are committed to save the biodiversity of this planet. We propose to discuss with them the possibility of sharing their knowledge with the children of the schools . The name of the organization conducting these activities is a trust which is headed by Biju. She has devoted her life for betterment of thousands of poor people.
There are many local festivals specially from the month of January to April where thousands people come from remote village in their traditional dresses and perform dance and song. We also train people, mostly women in weaving and making textiles with hands using natural colours.
Volunteers are provided clean rooms and sumptuous plant based food and two wheelers for travelling to other places.
So folks come and join hands for making this universe beautiful
Our center is situated in Tamulpur, Baksa in the state of Assam which is one and half hour drive by taxi or train. If our volunteers are coming by train they should buy the ticket to Rangiya wherefrom we can pick them up.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
Culturally this valley is unique as many communities settled here from parts of China , Myanmar and Thailand who still retain their traditional knowledge of forests and plant based food procured from them can help them heal . It would be a good opportunity to share their experience with such visitors. Volunteers can learn about their traditional ways of cooking food with herbs from the forests and other forest produce. There are opportunities to learn permaculture and their dances and music instruments.

They will be given beautiful cottages with clean beds to be shared between two with an attached bathroom with running hot and cold water. From the cottage one can have great views of the forest. They will have 24 hours access to a well equipped kitchen with all the raw material and an option to have home cooked food. this is 20 kilometres away from Rangiya railway station and has many direct trains from many big cities of India. Other than trains there is regular bus service from Guwahati and a bike on hire is also available. The volunteers are provided two meals in a day and no fee is charged from them.
Autres infos...
There are many people living in the center and a lady Nirmala who helps us in daily work. Sometimes my husband or children stay with me. In the morning we have one hour yoga session and after that you will not find me in as I have to run around many of our schools all spread over different locations. Every volunteer is free to decide on their choice of assignment after discussing with Biju.
In their time off the volunteers can play with children or play badminton or go for a walk in the forest or to many villages around and share the experience of the village culture of different communities. As Bhutan border a few minutes drive volunteers are welcome to visit this beautiful country whenever they have time. Though there are many places of interest one would love to travel however we strongly recommend Majuli which is the biggest river water island in the world known for its unique food, drinks and other cultural aspects. Kaziranga national park is also near Majuli famous for sanctuary for rhinoceroses.Informations complémentaires
