Help with home and garden projects in Oplotnica, Slovenia

  Description

  We are an elderly couple, living in the countryside, in a village at the foot of a green wooded mountain range Pohorje. We have pets, two adopted dogs and a few cats, and two parrots. We have our own organically grown vegetables and are self-sustainable with vegetables (do to our big green house – also in winter).
  
  We are mainly asking for help in the renovation of the old house and landscaping. We do a lot on our own, but some things are to hard for our old age, or are done to slow by us. Help in the garden is also appreciated.
  
  Apart from help, we really appreciate company of young people – since we are young in spirit. Miran had and has a lot of diseases in his life and medical problems - the young company lifts his spirit. The cultural and historical discussions keep his brain functioning on the higer level and in some way – keep him more healthy. In general we are both knowledgeable people and like meaningful discussions about life.
  
  We have already hosted quite some Workawayers for a few days, that came through our nice. And till now everyone really enjoyed our exchange and the experience with us and liked to come back.
  
  We leave in the town Oplotnica, just under the mountain Pohorje. That offers a lot of natural attractions - waterfalls (Oplotniški Vindgar, Slap Šumik), a mountain lake (Črno jezero). There is also a 2-3 days hiking trail over Pohorje. There are many hiking and biking trails near our house is near the thermal hot spring Zreče. Maribor (a nice, cowsy city, with a lot of culture) is also 40 min drive away.
  
  A few kilometers away lives the niece's young family on a bigger farm, that also visit us a lot and you could visit.

  Like we wrote above – you can learn in the discussions with us a lot about different culture, history, human nature, self-sufficiency. What we love to do. We also love to hear from your home country.
  
  Miran was working as philosopher in a high ranks and is very knowledgeable and experienced. People say that they always learn a lot in discussions with him and that he gives them thinking: about culture, history and human nature in general.
  
  Marta is also very skilled and knowledgeable. She knows a lot about storing food, gardening, herbs etc., what you can learn from her.
  You can also learn basics about building, architecture and renovating an old hause.
  
  About the surrounding you will learn a lot about Slovenian rural culture. How we are self-sufficient in a big scale. And how small farms function (they are all roand us, also - you can visit our nice with a small permaculutral farm).
  
  You can also learn some basics of building.

  Aide

  We leave next to a river, where lately are many floods. We would need urgently to make a stone barrier agains the floods! Help with that will be very needed, and the mater is urgent.
  
  Otherwise we are mainly asking for help in the renovation of the old house and landscaping. We do a lot on our own, but some things are to hard for our old age, or are done to slow by us. Help in the garden is also appreciated.
  
  The renovating envoles a lot of driving stuff with wheelbarrow (material, soil). Moving things. Putting lime down, and other, more simple things. So some basic streinght is needed – but always adaptable to your ability.
  
  In the garden there is weeding, storing food.
  Renovating of the green hause will also be needed soon.

  We know German activly (speaking) a bit better than English. Although we understand English very good, Marta is sometimes just shy to speak it. Miran speaks English very well.

  Hébergement

  Since the house is in renovating process, the accommodation will be a bigger tent. We can provide everything for sleeping – also a comfortable mattress.
  
  We just made a new bathroom.
  
  Next to the tent there is a chill-out area under a shadow of a tree. Otherwise the volenteers can use the kitchen in the house as they wish - its just very small and they would need to get to know it.
  
  Lunch is normally cooked from Marta. Breakfast is by wish (can also be self-service - we can buy the ingredients you wish - if we dont have them already). Dinner is normally also simple - if you wish you can also use the kitchen. But in Slovenia we are used to cook lunch, not dinner. Dinner is more a peace of bread, etc. But like we wrote - by wish you can cook.

  Autres infos...

  For us, also just the company of interesting young people, is a big help. But if you additionally you help few hours per day - we are supper happy. Additionally, even we are an old couple, we belive we are warm, kind, simple, wise. The young volenteers enoyed our company in the past very much. Also - if you have any problems with the accomodation, what you want to eat, ect - you can talk to us openly.
