    Description

After leaving my job as a lawyer in London during the pandemic, I now spend part of the year in Costa Rica on my farm where my long term vision is to create a community and wellness sanctuary.

My husband and I are in the final stages of building our home, and now we are more settled, are wanting to open our doors to collaborators and start building community. We live on a 4ha jungle property, with creek and waterfall: it is a peaceful refuge away from hustle and bustle, with a very rural feeling, although only a 30min drive to the beach and near to popular tourist towns.

I am passionate about holistic health and wellbeing, after suffering and recovering from chronic health issues in my twenties. I am in the early stages of growing a medicinal plant & herb garden, and have studied indigenous jungle medicine. I love wandering the forest, foraging for edible plants, and I love sharing my knowledge of holistic healing modalities as well as the healing power of good nutrition - 'food as medicine'.

I also love music and the arts - my husband and I are musicians, I am a writer, and living on these lands in the wild jungle provide much inspiration for my creative work!

My husband and I are musicians and we love to collaborate artistically with others! There are also various open mic nights in town 30 minutes away for those who want to connect musically with the broader community.

I love sharing my knowledge of local jungle medicines, food and nutrition as 'medicine', and holistic healing.

I've had a diverse range of life experiences - from life as a lawyer in London, to moving to the Costa Rican wilderness (where I've lived for most of the last 4 years - so I can give you a good insight into this country). I grew up in Australia, studied in England & France, and also spend time in Canada where my husband was raised. I love to share my experiences in life and learn from others.

    Aide

We are currently looking for a workawayer to join us on our property in Costa Rica and provide general assistance: with a particular focus on improving an old pre-existing structure (where we lived whilst building our home!). The main task would be to turn this into a warm, welcoming communal space and bedroom.

It currently is a single space, with attached bathroom (flush toilet) and outdoor shower, has basic facilities of fridge & stove (with an outdoor kitchen sink), and an open-air under-cover space. All the structural infrastructure is in place (and where extensions might be needed, this can be done by local builders).

What we're looking for is someone who wants to start living there and take care of the decorative help, cleaning, painting, beautifying, etc - putting love in as though this is 'home' and making a nice garden around it.

We have scrap wood left over from building our house that could be used to make furniture, shelves, etc, for someone with basic carpentry skills. We have many glass bottles we are collecting also, which could be used to make bottle walls if you have skills in clay&bottle building. Plumbing & electric skills would be a plus but not essential. The building has an existing water, electric, and internet connection (we have fibre optic cabling here - great internet for the jungle!)

We are also looking for other help around the property such as: carpentry with our own house-interior, landscaping and gardening, as well as being present at times we need to leave, to take care of our pup we hand-reared since birth (currently 6 months old).

An ideal fit for this exchange is: someone with basic renovating, decorating, carpentry skills, who loves nature & gardening, is good with dogs, and is keen to be involved in possible longer-term collaborations.

The accommodation is a single-room old bodega (6m x 3m inside, with 6m x 3m outdoor covered space). There is an attached flush toilet, outdoor shower, and outdoor (covered) dish-washing/sink space and laundry. The room contains a futon pull-out bed, stove and fridge, and a shelf. There is electricity, water and fibre optic internet connection.

The accommodation is also the main first task you will have: to do decorative work and make this space a nice cosy home. We want someone who is creative and can take quite an independent role leading this - and after all, this will be your home for however long you are with us!

Additional facilities: we have a 5mx5m outdoor communal deck space for yoga/meditation etc, and lots of outdoor jungle to roam. The deck is near to our house, a small wood cabin, which is up the hill from the bodega.

We avoid loud noise before 6am (mornings being a time for meditation for us) and after 8pm: we live very connected to the natural cycles and rhythms of the sun here.

We have a large property with jungle, creek, and private waterfall. During time off it's a lovely land to explore!

We are also not far from bus routes taking you to local beaches (bus stop is 10min drive down dirt road/40 min walk) Hitchhiking is common and safe around here. We are happy to share rides when we go out to make getting around easier for you.

We have fibre optic internet which is as good as you get here in the jungle. Sometimes we have power outages but these are usually at night and don't last long.
