    Description

We are Felix and Elli, a couple from Munich, Germany, and decided that Guatemala and El Paredon will be our second home away from home. El Paredon with its beach town flair mesmerized us, expats and locals are very welcoming and made it easy for us to fall in love with this small paradise.

Adapting to a new culture, one year of building and learning, another year of planning and thinking our Hostel is the final result and our big baby. Here we are loving the work we do and being blessed by our beautiful surroundings with Pacific Ocean, the surf the mangroves and the community, all together forming this hidden gem in Guatemala.

We are a hostel with dorms and private rooms and the biggest common area of El Paredon with loads of shade, hammocks, ping pong table, slack line and of course a big pool. Located 250m from the wide black sand beach where you find a wave to surf all year around. El Paredon is located in a national park, not only with the ocean in front but also a river with the mangroves in the back, where you can take a kayak or SUP and explore the wildlife.

Our team is mainly local we have helping international hands. We have a varierty of work fields in our hostel:
2 locals from the village for maintenance
4 locals ladies that keep the place nice and shiny
a bunch of local surf instructors that come in for surf classes
    2 local nightguards
    3 receptionists from Guatemala City
a bunch of international volunteers and barkeepers
The bar and reception team live onsite which guarantees to be always around the warmhearted hostel family.

Keen to be one of us?
Message us if you want to help us out and get to know a beautiful little surf village hidden at the Guatemalan Pacific coast.

We are living in a small surf/fishing village town in Guatemala. Around 80% of our staff are locals mainly from the village and a few from Guatemala City. Therefore you will get a very good picture of the different cultures within Guatemala, because city and village people live quite different lifes and we are having a lot of exhange and interaction in between the whole team.

You will be hanging out with local surfers at the bar, have the chance to go kayaking in the mangroves with them and get to know how a lot of locals still live and survival was before tourism came into town. You will have the chance to learn about their fishing culture as well as the more and more domintaing guatemalan surf culture. Since our working language is dominantly spanish you will very pick up a lot of true "chapin"-spanish. And have a great laugh while our locals teach you new words and you teach them some of your language.

Furthermore you will have a great culinaric cultural exchange with our kitchen staff. Since you will be eating delicious guatemalan food for lunch and always communicating with the girls you will get that experience in our place but also on the streets in locals eateries, at the market or if you are keen in one the offered cooking classes with local mayans. If you are interested in handcrafts, plants and local carpintary you will be able to have a great exchange with our open minded carpenter and gardener. The least you will learn is how to open a coconut with a machete. ;)

Working with us would be helping us with daily tasks in a small town in rural Guatemala. If you worked in hospitality before, you will know what to do, if not, you will pick up on it quickly. We have 2 shifts a day, morning or afternoon so even on the days you work, you will have either morning or afternoon free.

If you love to get to know new people, good vibes and spanish and english skills, get in touch with us and we can describe you better on what you can expect.
We are looking or a dynamic and outgoing person, that can help out in different fields:
    - Entertainment - We like to play games and entertain people that are staying with us and create a group dynamic.
    - Grafic design (flyers, fotos, videos, social media etc)
    - Artistic work
    - If you are a talented chef and want to exchange local cooking knowledge, we are open ears
We work with the local community as well, this means you can practice your spanish skills with the kitchen girls our gardener or local bartenders. They can tell you all about the rural Guatemalan life if you are interested.
    - Also we are always open to host Yoga instructors who like to share their experiences and offer classes to our guests.
    - For the moment we are looking for an open and active person to organise activities such as beach cleanings, games nights or any sporty competition (ping pong, darts, etc.)

We have two different accommodation types, one with 4 single beds in a mixed dorm and semi-private rooms for our permanent staff. The volunteer area is apart from where guests are staying, to give you more privacy. You will share the toilets and showers though, since we have 2 buildings for all guests and staff. We live in the tropics, it gets really hot during the day, so life is outside 90% of the time anyway.

We offer 3 meals a day for every volunteer helping us out. You will be able to choose breakfast and dinner off the menu and get provided a staff lunch. We have vegan and vegetarian options, so everybody will be happy. We also have a kitchen in the staff area if you feel like making your own food or smoothie. :)
