NEW UPDATE: Happy New Year! We are tucked in with a blanket of snow and planning for next year's adventures!
Live on a small farm in rural British Columbia. We have sheep, cows, horses, dogs and a cat, and the farm is still growing. We are 30 minutes from the closest centre with services, boutique shopping and a regional airport.
Having a drivers license is a must to allow you the freedom to explore the Cariboo Chilcotin. The area offers an abundance of outdoor activities from hiking and photography, to driving tours and camping.
If you are a highly social person who loves the city and night life this is not the place for you; but if you are looking to learn about Canadian culture and enjoy the serenity of nature we look forward to welcoming you to our home.

You will benefit from this exchange by learning Canadian small farm customs. I welcome the opportunity for visitors to practice their English, learn how to grow and preserve food, learn about foods in our culture for treats or healing and learn livestock husbandry. This exchange offers a rural farm experience. I would love to learn new languages, new skills, cultural cooking and about your life.

Here are some ideas of what I am up to depending on the season:
Yard help raking lawns, splitting & cutting firewood, cleaning gutters & chimneys, fire smarting
Animal Care - feeding & watering, shearing, trimming feet, lambing, grooming livestock, milking
Fencing - putting up rails, installing & maintaining electric fences, building right of ways
Gardening - planting, weeding, pruning, watering, harvesting, preserving
House help - shopping, meal preparation, light cleaning, room renovations
Winter preparation - garden harvest, food preservation, livestock butchering, hunting & gathering

Hébergement
You will have your own room and a shared bathroom with shared living space and kitchen in our home. As part of the cultural exchange you will be treated as family.

Life is very independent and centres around the farm and rural outdoor life - you must enjoy quiet outdoors.
All of our meat and some of our produce is harvested naturally. In the fall we are butchering lambs, hunting and processing meat, making sausage, drying herbs & berries, etc to put away food for the year. In the spring, the sheep are lambing and cows calving so I am usually very close to home to watch over the new babies.
We enjoy meeting people who are comfortable working independently or as a team, who are interested in different cultures/languages, are good with hunting and natural food harvesting and enjoy pets and livestock.

I welcome digital nomads with the caution that I am on satellite internet which can be weather temperamental. Town has good wifi in a pinch and is a 30 minute drive.

Amelia
Amelia loves scratches and massages. She is certain that is the only reason for your visit.
Rhoda
Rhoda is our matriarch. A quiet serious lady unless you have horse cookie treats.
Mabel
Mabel is a sweet girl who tries to raise all the babies. She likes quiet attention and good food.
Waltzing Matilda
"Tillie" is our hand raised replacement Milk cow. She will have her first baby is 2026.
Annie
Annie is our family Milk cow. She raises cute babies and fills the fridge with milk, cream, cheese and butter!
Sheep - too many to name
We have mostly South African Dorpers and everyone gets a name. The sheep love horse cookies, scratches and always food.
Athena
Athena and Mage are sisters learning from the school of Ariel. Athena loves to run and have ear scratches.
Mage
Mage is a young lady learning to be a livestock guardian. Still a puppy she is bouncy and always excited for love.
Ariel
Ariel is our head livestock guardian dog. She loves belly rubs and hanging with her sheep.
Sasha
Sasha is our senior Arabian mare. She loves gentle snuggles and lots of brushing.
Serenade
Serenade is our Anglo Arabian mare. A lovely lady who adores cookies and attention.
