  🌿 Join our environmental organisation on the west coast of Norway

  Are you passionate about nature, environmental protection and hands-on learning?
  Join our Norwegian environmental organisation for a month on the beautiful west coast of Norway. You will become part of a small international team and take part in environmental projects, outdoor activities, practical learning and cultural exchange.
  Our base is Seletun, a unique environmental learning and volunteer hub surrounded by forest, water and beautiful Norwegian nature.
  
  During this period, we are preparing Seletun for the next year's volunteer and educational activities. You will participate in practical activities at the site, learn about traditional building methods and sustainable ways of working with the landscape, and join our team in caring for and preparing the site.
  
  Alongside this, you will participate in our wider environmental work in the Bergen area, which can include marine-litter collection, boat activities, environmental education and outdoor activities. This is a chance to experience environmental work in Norway from the inside — while living together with an international team and learning from one another.

  🌱 Seletun – our environmental learning hub
  Seletun is much more than a place where our volunteers stay. It is a place that our organisation uses for volunteer activities, environmental education, practical learning and demonstrations of traditional and sustainable ways of working with buildings and the landscape.
  
  The site is located beside a lake, surrounded by forest and close to the fjords. It includes historic farm buildings, traditional grass roofs, a unique water watersystem, gardens and other features that reflect different approaches to living and working with nature.
  
  Throughout the year, Seletun is used for volunteer activities, educational visits, environmental projects and gatherings.
  Autumn is an important period for us because we prepare and care for the site before the next season of activities begins.
  During your stay, you will therefore participate in practical activities that help prepare Seletun for future volunteers, educational activities and environmental projects.
  
  Depending on weather and what the site needs, activities may include:
  Caring for outdoor areas and gardens
  Caring for existing buildings and structures, organise our educational spaces
  Preparing spaces for future volunteer and educational activities
  General site organisation and maintenance
  Learning about traditional building methods
  Exploring sustainable approaches to working with buildings and the surrounding landscape
  The activities are carried out together with our team. You will learn about what we are doing and participate alongside us rather than being expected to work independently or provide specialist tradesperson services.

  🌊 Our wider environmental work: Seletun is only one part of what we do.
  
  During your stay, you will also have the opportunity to participate in environmental projects in the Bergen area. Depending on weather, tides and what projects are taking place, these may include:
  🛶 Going out by boat to collect marine litter
  🌊 Cleaning beaches and coastal areas
  🌿 Exploring and learning about Norwegian nature
  👩‍🏫 Participating in environmental education with children and young people
  🤝 Taking part in local clean-up activities
  🌱 Supporting other environmental projects carried out by our organisation
  
  This gives you the opportunity to experience different sides of environmental work — from practical work at an environmental learning site to working directly with marine pollution, nature and local communities.

  🌍 Cultural exchange
  Cultural exchange is an important part of this experience.
  
  You will live and work together with a small international team and have the opportunity to experience Norwegian everyday life, nature and environmental culture.
  
  We want to learn from you too. You may come from a completely different country and have different traditions, experiences and perspectives. We want to hear your stories, share meals, exchange ideas and learn from one another.
  
  During your stay we will make time for:
  Shared meals and cooking
  Conversations about our countries and cultures
  Exploring the local area
  Outdoor activities
  Games and social evenings
  Learning about Norwegian life
  Sharing knowledge, ideas and skills
  Our team leader lives together with the volunteers and participates in the daily activities. We want the group to feel like a small community rather than simply a group of people completing tasks.

  👥 The team
  The team will consist of 4 volunteers + 1 team leader.
  You will live and work together with our team leader, Carole.
  -> Carole is originally from Belgium and first joined our organisation as a volunteer herself. She later moved to Norway to continue working with environmental protection and marine litter. She is social, engaged and down-to-earth, and loves being outdoors, playing games, cooking and creating a good team atmosphere.
  
  We are a group of people who:

  📍 Your home: Seletun
  
  You will stay at Seletun, approximately 25–30 minutes outside Bergen city centre. The site is surrounded by forest and fjord, with water and hiking opportunities directly outside your door.
  
  🏡 Accommodation
  You will live in a shared volunteer house with:
  Shared bedrooms
  Kitchen
  Bathrooms
  Washing machine
  Common living space
  Bedrooms may be shared with volunteers of the same gender.
  
  🌲 Free time
  You will have access to canoes, hiking opportunities and beautiful natural surroundings.
  On days off you can explore Bergen, including its cafés, museums, culture and surrounding nature.
  
  🍂 Autumn on the west coast
  The west coast of Norway in October and November can be wet, windy and cold.
  It can also be spectacular.
  We spend a lot of time outdoors, so you should genuinely enjoy being outside in changing weather.
  Good waterproof clothing, warm layers and suitable outdoor shoes are essential.
  
  📅 Practical information
  Arrival: 12 October
  Departure: 6 November
  Crew: 4 volunteers + 1 team leader
  We are only looking for people who can participate for the whole period.
  
  🍽️ Food
  Basic food is provided. We normally cook and eat together as a group, with a mixture of vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. We try to accommodate dietary requirements where possible.

  Our organisation was founded in 1993 and is a well-established environmental NGO in Norway, headquartered in Bergen, with regional offices in Tromsø, Trondheim and Oslo.
  
  Our work includes:
  Marine litter and ocean protection
  Climate and environmental policy
  Ecosystem and nature protection
  Food security and environmental justice
  Indigenous rights and social welfare related to environmental issues
  Since 2017, our work has contributed to removing more than 385,000 kg of marine litter and involving thousands of volunteers and children and young people in environmental activities.

  We need help to stop marine and river pollution! You can be an important part of doing that with river cleaning and spreading awareness through conversations and social media. You will take part in daily tasks such as cooking and cleaning, but also helping with other environmental tasks the organisation might need help for during your stay.

  You will stay at our environmental hotel, a unique place made up of five traditional houses from different parts of Norway, each with its own story and design.
  
  Our team will live together in one of these houses, called the Oppdal house, which is fully equipped with everything you need:

  Comfortable bedrooms
  Cozy common areas
  
  🍽️ Food & meals
  Food is provided and prepared together as a group.
  
  We usually have 3–4 meals per day
  The group decides together what to cook
  We serve a mix of fish, meat, and vegetables
  Drinking water is provided
  
  We aim to keep our lifestyle as sustainable as possible.
  If there are several vegetarians in the group, we try to keep meals mostly vegetarian.
  
  There is always flexibility:
  You can buy your own food if you have preferences
  There is access to a car for grocery shopping and errands
  Sometimes we also catch fish that can be used for meals
