    Description

We are trying to approach the Mexican stray dog problem from a population control perspective by spaying as many dogs as we possibly can afford to spay. We will also house (rescue) suffering dogs who are not doing well on the street. However our focus is the post operative care of female dogs which have been spayed. We try to stop suffering and help sick animals get the care they need. We rehabilitate the rescued dogs and we find them safe and loving homes; recently most of the homes have been in Canada.

They will be able to watch veterinarians spay dogs in field conditions and assist to some extent with post operative care. They can learn Spanish and learn about life in Sub tropical Mexico. There are opportunities to experience some amazing food particular to this region and even to learn how to cook it. This is a chance to live among the locals, slightly off the main touristy beaten track. We will also provide you with a certificate of completion. There is a rich Jarocho Veracruz cowboy tradition and there are all sorts of events in the area. The lake offers up a lot of opportunities. The area is great for tropical wildlife watching. A beach is an hour away. If you want to see monkeys then this is a good place. Catemaco is also inexpensive compared with most other parts of Mexico. Here you will meet the locals and be accepted into their homes. You will have a wonderful time and make friends for life.

We rescue vulnerable stray dogs and neglected dogs which are not thriving on the street. We also try to reduce the stray populations through spay events. We need people willing to be quite independent and walk, train, feed, clean up after, wash dogs and with some skills (or willing to learn skills) in veterinary nursing care or a willingness to learn to care for post operative dogs. You might need to help rescue dogs and catch them for spay/neuter. There is a lot to do and some cage building and dog bed making and dog toy making might be helpful. Cooking nutritious dog meals could happen too. We also have cat litter trays to clean. There is some occasional maintenance of the shelters for those who are interested. We have all sorts of possible volunteer jobs depending on your skill and what you would like to do. You can go to and to our facebook page to see the dogs in our care and see pictures of where you would stay. We are looking for all sorts of people but it is a must to be able to be around both dogs and cats and to be fairly laid back and willing to learn some phrases in Spanish once in Catemaco. You must be trustworthy and be and adventurous sort of person who absolutely loves animals and is willing to get their hands dirty.
