New Yoga Retreat in Kampot Cambodia - Cultural Exchange & Community Impact
We are a Khmer-owned yoga retreat that has been up and running since January 2025, hosting guests from all over the world and achieving 100% five star reviews on Google and BookYogaRetreats.com. Next tourist season (Late September onwards) we are expanding with a new building featuring dorms and outdoor chill space.

Unlike other retreats that take advantage of cheap labor and rent in developing countries while extracting profits overseas, we are genuinely committed to supporting Cambodia's recovery. Our mission extends beyond wellness - we're helping rebuild the tourist industry post-COVID by attracting respectful, conscious visitors who contribute meaningfully to the local economy.

Our large villa features a rooftop yoga space with stunning mountain views. The Khmer owner manages food and accommodation with exceptional skill - she's a brilliant cook who was previously part of the management team for a successful yoga retreat. I'm from the UK with extensive experience in retreat marketing, and together we've created something truly special.

    Cultural Exchange & Learning Experience

We employ local staff for all operational roles including housekeeping, cooking, administration, and grounds maintenance. We partner with Workaway yoga teachers not to replace local workers, but because specialized English-language yoga instruction isn't readily available in our area. Since most guests come from Europe and the US, we need teachers who can communicate effectively in English.

A key part of our mission is training local staff in structural integration (Rolfing), one of our signature offerings that isn't available elsewhere in Cambodia. We're actively seeking Workawayers who can help us build local capacity in this specialized field, creating sustainable skills and employment opportunities for our Cambodian team members.
We're passionate about cultural exchange and see hosting as a wonderful opportunity to learn from visitors while sharing authentic Cambodian life. Our Workawayers become part of our community, eating meals with local staff, learning basic Khmer phrases, and experiencing traditional customs. We offer free classes to local people and use local massage therapists and holistic healing practitioners.

Beyond yoga instruction, we encourage cultural activities like visiting local markets together, participating in community events, and informal language exchange with our Cambodian team members. Our goal is creating meaningful connections that benefit both visitors and the local community.

    What We're Looking For

Volunteer yoga teachers who can teach up to two classes daily, ideally with experience facilitating meditation and workshops. You'd likely teach our afternoon yoga class plus 3-4 meditation/workshop sessions weekly. Additional supportive tasks include tidying the shala, feeding pets, liaising with guests, and helping with photography/promotion if that interests you.
    What We Offer

You'll receive a private room (see photos) and three delicious meals daily prepared by our experienced Khmer chef. We also offer exchanges for reduced hours with dorm accommodation. The location is peaceful with access to natural beauty, yet only kilometers from Kampot town center.

We maintain full compliance with Cambodian labor laws and can assist with necessary paperwork for longer stays. Everything is ultra-modern and comfortable in our newly completed building.

Since the owner is Khmer, you will be able to learn something about the culture. I have previous experience setting up and marketing retreats, so I can help you to learn about that if you are interesting (building a website and so on). There will be a lot of opportunities to connect with local people and even practice the language if you like.

  • Aide

    Aide

We are looking for a Yoga teacher who is passionate about the practice and its ability to heal and empower people. Ideally it would be somebody who has some experience with marketing retreats, but this is something we can teach you about. We are looking for somebody with a lot of creative ideas who can help us build on what we have already created over our first season.

We want somebody who is a good communicator and can welcome the guests and help them to communicate with the Khmer staff when needed.

The volunteer will be given a newly decorated, luxury room in the villa with a private bathroom. You will be able to use the kitchen downstairs, and meals will be provided (the owner is a great cook). The rooms have a great view, and there is a rooftop area available for Yoga. They may also be some exchanges available for dorm accommodation but less work.

If you can drive a moto, it will make your life easier, especially if you want to go to the downtown area where all the restaurants and cafes are. But it is easy to find a TukTuk if needed. There are plenty of things to visit in the local area: waterfalls, caves, the national park. The downtown area is fairly popular with backpackers and there are often music events. There is also an ex-pat community from all over the world.

The WiFi is generally good but it can be temperamental so it is recommended to get a local SIM so you can make a hotspot if needed. Data is very cheap and it is fast enough for most types of remote working.
