    Description

    Hello Everyone.
This is Peggy and Andreas. Many years ago we understood that we had enough of the city life, so after a transitional period finally in the spring of 2019 we decided to move in the farm along with our newborn daughter Demetra.
Through these years we formed our tiny house that is a combination of a caravan and an expansion structure that we created with a natural building approach. We also built a geodesic dome that we use mainly as a tollhouse - warehouse and a chicken coop that can host up to 100 chickens under very healthy and pleasant conditions.

We installed gardens of permanent culture in which we cultivate our vegetables through all four seasons and a small apiary to provide honey, propolis and wax for our house and pollination to the area. We have a special love for trees and we constantly plant new ones and take care of the old ones. We were very lucky to find 20 age old big olive trees and a huge oak on the farm when we obtained it. We constantly take care and develop our space with care to make it pleasant and functional for all the inhabitants, people and animals .
In all this time, the workaway volunteers have put a huge input and we are grateful for this. We had the chance to meet some wonderful people and we have created together projects and memories invaluable for us.

The tasks we carry on here, can be categorized to daily, seasonal, and occasional.
-On a daily basis we care for the chickens, the gardens and the trees.
-On the end of each season we curry tasks for the smooth transition from one season to the next.
-Twice a year we do big harvesting projects: straw and winter cereals or legumes in June and olives on November.
-In autumn we do seedings of legumes and winter cereals.
    -In winter we plant trees.
-In spring we do a big “clean up” taking care of everything that has been neglected during winter. A smaller clean up takes place before the winter too.
-In summer we do lots of manual watering, infrastructure, maintenance and maybe upgrades or new structures. Also we prepare gardens for the new gardening season that here starts in Autumn.
-In every season new challenges come up so we never get bored. The above list is our most common activities but it is probable that in every season there will be other things to do too.

In all the above we request help and participation from the volunteers. We especially care to share with them the knowledge that we have obtained through the years we have spend working with nature. To share our conquests and our mistakes
In this context, we teach to volunteers :

-How to cultivate vegetables only with compost and water in “no digging” gardens.

-How to built and maintain a chicken coop and how to keep healthy, thriving and productive chickens naturally, without medicines and chemicals. Also how to make more out of less and less store bought chicken feed.

-How to keep bees and beekeeping equipment with natural methods and without the use of chemicals and medicines.

-How to wash dishes and clothes with a sustainable way.

-How to built and maintain a house and a geodesic dome with natural building.

-What does caring and respecting trees mean to us and in which ways they are vital for our ecosystem and for life in general.

-How to develop the mentality and the skill of using the powers of nature instead of the powers of the monetary market.

-How we three live in harmony, synchronized with nature’s rhythms, away from the mechanical model of city life that had turned us into it's cogs.

We also enjoy to share with our visitors our interest in music, history, philosophy, language, theater, cinema, and finally, last but not least: to share the experience of Mediterranean diet that we follow ourselves and care to provide.
Finally we enjoy to learn new stuff and discuss with our visitors about their interests. Cultural exchange is a very important reason we have joined the workaway community.

Please make sure that you read carefully and understand all the chapters of our profile. You can also learn more about us through our feedbacks. Thank you for taking the time to read us. We wish you a wonderful workaway experience.

As a general approach we request 25hours of help given in 5 days per week with Tuesdays and Thursdays off. The timeline depends on the day, the season, the weather and can also slightly adjust to the visitor's needs up to a certain extent. We always try to work under pleasant conditions and avoid exposure to extreme weather conditions like heat in the summer or rain. Apart from that we ask for participation in the wash up and cleanup after meals. In special occasions (like olive harvesting) we will ask for overtime within a day but never exceed the 25h/week. If that is the case we will notify you in the conversation before your visit

Please note that we are looking for human interaction away from the logic of transaction (monetary or non monetary) So please don't think in terms of "giving back to us" in exchange for the hosting and education. Try to imagine a "stage" where you can "give something to yourself" in a setup that doing so is beneficial for the setup itself. We consider ourselves administrators of this land and the works happening in it. Not usufructs of a property, nor managers of a profitable business.

We also request respect for all forms of life that cohabit with us in the farm.

Cet hôte propose un échange linguistique
We have developed a two hour course to teach the Greek alphabet. Greek language is phonetic. Which means that all the information one needs to pronounce a greek text is in the text itself. You only need to learn the sound that every letter produces. We are very proud to share this knowledge with every visitor and have succeded to do so with a few so far.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

For the moment hosting can be provided during the dry season (summer, half spring and half autumn) in tents (we provide tents, mattress pillows, sheets, sleeping bags, hot water bottles, but you are also welcome to bring your own equipment).Mobile homes RVs and Caravans are more than welcome too. The guests can use the infrastructures and means of the farm (toilet, shower, outdoor living room, tent area) taking up the responsibility of their personal safety and proper use of them. As for food we follow the old Greek moto "where four people can eat, six can eat as well" which means that we will provide portions of our own meals (three a day). We have lunch all together in our dining room but breakfast and dinner we provide and the visitors have it whenever they like (it is the opposite during summer were we all have dinner together and lunch we provide). We are usually vegetarians but not strictly. Eggs and vegetables are usually enough and we shop responsibly on our way to autonomy step by step. We always do the cooking for you, but as an exception you can cook something for us if you wish in the spirit of cultural exchange, to show us a dish from your country.

IMPORTANT NOTE 1: We always settle hosting for two weeks. Never for less. We encourage our visitors for long stays but we commit to hosting for two weeks and during this stay we all decide together how long we want to prolong the cohabitation.

IMPORTANT NOTE 2: when visitors arrive here we give them a mini tour where we show the composting toilet, the shower and other details about accommodation, safety, and farm particularities in general. For this MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARRIVE HERE TWO HOURS AT LEAST BEFORE SUNSET. In order to achieve this you should talk with us prior to your travel arrangements about the details of your arrival day, and arrange for a pick up where needed.

IMPROTANT NOTE 3: When we get a request we start a conversation, maybe a video call too. If through of this conversation we accept the request, we don't commit to hosting until the visitor confirms via the workaway dialogue their arrival and departure date. After this we confirm back and we consider this settled and committed from both sides. WhatsApp communication can start after this point for guidance on how to get here.

WE DONT MIND HOSTING SMOKERS as long as they smoke outdoors, are extremely careful with fire safety issues, and care for the dispose of their cigarette buds.

Next to the farm stands the Movri Hill with more than 600m altitude. Many visitors have enjoyed a beautiful hike there with a reward of a great view.

The nearest (2km) village to the farm is called Arla. It has a mini market, bakery, grill house, 3 café restaurants with free wifi, a pharmacy and a tool shop. From this village. The nearest city with a full market is Kato Achaia which is 8km away by road.

Even though the farm is relatively close to the sea (8 km) there is no sea view. However from here, one can see the beautiful mountains of Peloponnese, Erymanthos, Santameri, Mazaraki, and Movri Hill.

From December to the end of March we accept only Campervans and other Mobile Homes. These should serve the visitors for accomodation, indoor cooking, heating, and living room. We offer parking spot in the farm, composting toilet, occasional-limited 220volt electricity, hot shower, washing machine, outdoor cooking gas stove, drinkable water, ice for your icebox. Additionally we will be happy to do some shopping (at your cost) for you if you want, while we do our weekly shopping so that you don't have to travel and search for things. We visit the street vegetable market every week and we find deals of local veggies as cheap as 1euro per kilo. For additional supplies you can find a super market in the nearest village of Arla. Finally we offer education around anything we know. We DON'T offer meals-ingredients We ask for up to 15hours assistance per person per week and the rest as described above (respect for all forms of life that cohabit in the farm...etc). The farm's gate is 2.9 meters wide ,so any vehicle wider than that can't go through. Please note that we don't have enough space in our living room to hang out together during the dark winter afternoons. So if you don't have heating in your mobile home, and you are not willing to spend the afternoon in your car, you will probably not enjoy your stay here.

  • Possibilité d'accueillir les animaux

    Possibilité d'accueillir les animaux

We will not accept animals that feed off a kitchen garden. For example we don't accept bunnies. Please don't bring a dog here that: -can be aggressive towards children, cats or other dogs. -Has a habbit to dig, as it can do a lot of damage to the farm and also it might escape under the fence and cause problems to neighbors. -Is not co-operating with you, and you can't train it within a reasonable time to not step into garden beds.
