    Description

Hi! We are Elyse and Minor, a friendly international couple raising our two young children on a small permaculture homestead in the heart of Costa Rica’s magical Osa Peninsula. We live on a 6,000 m² (1.5 acre) property just outside Puerto Jiménez, where we practice dense, regenerative planting and grow a wide variety of tropical fruit trees, vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants. Our project is a living, evolving food forest — we focus on building healthy soil, maximizing biodiversity, and creating a productive system that works with the jungle rather than against it. We just want to create abundance

    Our Location

We are incredibly fortunate to be located in one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. The legendary Corcovado National Park is practically at our doorstep, and the calm, beautiful Río Dulce flows nearby. Primary rainforest surrounds us, filled with the sounds of tropical birds, howler monkeys, and the occasional distant ''wah-wah" call of the jaguarundi at night.

What You Can Do and See

This is paradise for nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and adventure seekers:
    - Wildlife watching: Spot scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths, capuchin and howler monkeys, coatis, iguanas, and countless butterfly species — often right from our property or during short walks.
    - Hiking & Exploring: Easy access to forest trails and the national park for guided or independent hikes.
    - River life: Swim and refresh in the Río Dulce or Rio Tigre, try your hand at fishing, or simply relax by the water.
    - Beaches: Beautiful beaches like Playa Preciosa are a short drive or bike ride away. You can also reach world-famous surfing spots such as Matapalo in 30–45 minutes by car.
    - Local culture: Visit the vibrant Saturday market in Puerto Jiménez for fresh local produce, handmade crafts, and friendly cultural exchange with the community.
    - Relaxation: End your days swinging in a hammock under the stars, listening to the jungle orchestra.

Whether you want to immerse yourself in permaculture, explore breathtaking nature, surf, or simply slow down and enjoy the tropical rhythm of life, there is something here for everyone. We’re looking forward to sharing our home, our project, and this extraordinary corner of Costa Rica with open-hearted volunteers!

Cultural Exchange & What You’ll Gain

Staying with us offers a rich, authentic cultural immersion unlike what you’ll find in tourist areas. We live in a tight-knit, community-oriented local neighborhood near a small town called Puerto Jiménez . Our life is filled with Pura Vida philosophy, and strong community bonds. We treat Workawayers as valued team members and friends rather than just helpers. You’ll quickly feel at home.

What you can learn with us:
    - Hands-on tropical permaculture on a small 6,000 m² lot: food forest design, dense planting strategies, composting, natural pest control, methods of propagation.
    - Practical sustainable living skills adapted to a tropical environment.
    - Everyday Tico culture: local customs, values, food, traditions, and the relaxed Costa Rican way of life.
    - Spanish practice in real-life situations through conversations with us, neighbors, and friends at the lively Saturday market, where you can buy fresh local produce, discover handicrafts, and enjoy true cultural exchange.
    - Forest medecine
    - The fascinating local history of the Osa Peninsula, which was once a major hotspot for Costa Rica’s gold rush (especially in the 1980s). My husband Minor is an experienced gold panner and can share stories about this adventurous chapter of the region’s past. You may even have the chance to learn traditional gold panning techniques directly from him in the nearby rivers.

This help is deal for 2 people from around august 21 to january 7th 2027 (4 months and 2 weeks). You will simply keep the house tidy and keep the grass at an acceptable level. That means shorter around the property, but it can go a bit taller further down, but keep in mind the longer you wait the harder it is to cut it (we have a brush cutter for the job). The land is 6000m2. You can also feed our dog ''Guaria''. This is about 2h per person per day (even less sometimes). You don't need to do any heavy gardening or farming if you do not want to, we simply ask you to keep an eye on some fruit trees and give us a call if you see something weird. If you wish to plant additional fruits/veggies or keep some hens, you are welcome to do so. You can help yourself with the one currently producing too! So this is a great opportunity to learn about tropical permaculture and experiment. It will be only the two of you there, but we will introduce you to our friendly neighbors.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

You will have an entire two-story wooden house for yourself and your partner. The upstairs offer an big open space where you can sleep confortably, but still be in touch with the nature surrounding you. There are a couple beds with nets for bugs. This setting is ideal because the Osa Peninsula can get quite warm and humid, but this way, you get a really nice breeze in the evening. Note that this is a shared room (with your friend or spouse), but there is a possibility to put a curtain in the middle for more privacy. The house has a bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, oven, toaster, water boiler), 2 patios and a eating/play area and a laundry/storage room. Almost every day you see toucans, red macaws, green parakeets and other tropical birds feeding off the trees. On the nearby trails or beaches you can see a lot more, like monkeys and dolphins! If you are a wild life enthousiast, this place is for you! We live 15 min away from the main town (Puerto-Jimenez).

We can't provide for meals, but you can take anything that is ready on the permaculture lot (pinapples, yucca, platanos, bananos, papayas, coco, dragon fruits, mangoes, avocados). Note that there is no hot water.
