Amanda studied product design and she put her skills to good use during her fortnight stay, finding unique repurposing and upcycling solutions. Amanda was a great help to Matty, the workman, while he was plastering walls. She was constantly cleaning his trail of dust, she did three big cleans of the whole house and took the plaster splashes off the floors. He thought she was strong and they were great company for each other. Blaithin adored being brought on Amanda’s many walks and was given lots of care an attention. We discovered for the first time that she likes turnip. Food was a feature, Amanda made a great risotto, pumpkin soup and sweet potato chips.
We got on really well, so much so, that she let me try on her trademark dungarees for sizing. Two memories stand out: Amanda’s expression when we went to Westport and I had to drag her away from the music in the pub, she got to go back thankfully, and the chasing around backroads we did the Catan night trying to get a sighting of the Northern Lights. We should have just gone straight to Belmullet for the best view.
Amanda is lovely, a great communicator and a committed worker with super talents. A few weeks after her visit I received an amazing graphic design she did of me and Blaithin. I will treasure it forever; I love it so much. Any Host would be very lucky to have Amanda in their home, she is inspirational.

I stayed with Sinead for almost 2 weeks and had a great time! We did a lot of activities in the evenings and on her days off. She showed me around county Mayo, and explained a lot about the area and nature, we did a creative workshop, went to the pub, joined a games night and more :)

My stay with Sinead was INCREDIBLE!
She is one of the kindest persons I have ever met and welcomed me into her home and her town. Belmullet is beautiful and everyone there was super welcoming. Blaithin is wonderful and we got along really well, I loved playing with her and it was so fun to have someone else in the house with me during the day. The house is beautiful and it was such a treat to be part of the remodeling process- anyone who gets to stay here is really lucky.
Belmullet has a very lively music scene and Sinead was amazing with helping me get connected with more locals! I was able to borrow a keyboard from one of the neighbors and even got to perform at the local nursing home. There's live music almost every night in Belmullet and I loved getting to know people at the weekly jam sessions.
Sinead is a fantastic host and makes lasting connections with people. A few previous workawayers came to visit during my stay and it was clear how much they adored her and what a wonderful community she had created through this program. She was also very caring for me when I was sick, which was very much appreciated.

Sinead is a very interesting, warmhearted, creative, and energetic person who made it quite easy for me to integrate. I stayed with her and her wonderful and lovely dog Blaithín for nearly one month and enjoyed the time a lot.
On the one hand, my tasks were quite clear and openly communicated, which helped me a lot. Also, they were all
… read more manageable and sometimes, a list that Sinead prepared helped me getting forward more easily. On the other hand, I was welcomed very warmly from the very beginning on. Not only did we do very nice daytrips, which were stunning, interesting, and funny, but Sinead also inspired me to do some arts projects such as writing poems (regards to Peter B.) taking photos. Besides, we had some good movie/series evenings.
Her house is very heartful, artsy, and interesting too: It's a work in very good progress, and Sinead has lots of ideas to fill the house with even more life. Thanks to her creativity (& Matty's thinking cap), her ideas become a nice reality.
What else to say: "No major accidents, no major incidents". Sinead is very funny and at the same time you can also have a very good, serious conversation with her. I will definitely miss her, as well as I will miss Blaithín.
About the dog Blaithín. She is just lovely, gorgeous, loyal. As her name tells, she is a flower (because she is adorable). At the same time, she runs like a horse, and looks like a sheep. We've spent so much good time with each other - thankfully she got used to me quite soon. Still, she has her own mind (which makes her even more adorable in the end). My advise to the next workawayer: Be gentle and patient with her (training and grooming), it will definitely pay off. Don't forget the cuddles and some good and varied food, she loves it (quality time)!
To sum up, my Workaway stay with Sinead was a very good, interesting, and enriching experience. I can recommend her as a host by heart.
All the best to you, Sinead! Auf ein Wiedersehen.

Tim stayed with me for a month, he is a very calm, polite, level-headed young man with many talents and abilities. I found Tim to be a hard worker, being very diligent in all he undertook. He worked on several projects: cleaning and painting seven radiators; raking up hay in two big gardens and stacking it in a haystack; stacking the turf as fuel
… read more for the winter; helping a construction worker with building walls for a new room; preparing materials for the construction of a table; doing daily chores such as dishwashing, cleaning the house, doing laundry, watering plants, emptying bins, etc. Throughout this entire period, Tim spoke in English to perfect his fluency in the language, he even wrote poems in English about the area, which was a lovely addition.
He is a very kind and gentle person and I was delighted to included him in whatever activities were planned, as he was wonderful company. Tim availed of cultural exchange opportunities such as: a car day trip to North Mayo and the Mullet Peninsula, a boat trip to the Inishkea Islands, a bus trip to the National Park, a hike up Erris Head Loop Walk and enjoying the company of friends who visited my home over the month. He also made a short trip to Dublin.
He is independent and comfortable in his own company. I was away for a quiet a few nights during a two-week period, so Tim minded the dog and looked after her in my absence. He seems to have a very good nature for animal care and made a very special bond with Blaithin. Tim was a joy to be around. I totally recommend Tim to future Hosts.

Ellen painted many pieces of furniture to make the sitting room very beautiful. She was very diligent and painted every day in stages to complete the job, also painting the skirting boards. Ellen really clicked with my friend who was staying, they so enjoyed watching The Rose of Tralee and commenting dryly on all ‘the lovely girls’. ‘The Reason of Towns’ exhibition was on in the Art Centre and Ellen and I went to the talk and to the exhibition.
I got to know Ellen quite well and learnt about her Irish background. She made lovely stews and stir-fry, so we shared tasty meals together before playing board games. The dog was not well during that time and Ellen was a great help in trying to figure it out the reason and taking care of her. The weather also was not good during Ellen’s stay, but as she is very clean and orderly, she excelled at organising the laundry drying inside. The stormy weather also hampered her visit to the National Park using the free bus, but she enjoyed being in Westport instead.
Ellen is a very calm, polite, level-headed young lady with many talents and abilities. I had to remind myself that she is American, because she is so Irish in her being, getting all the subtle nuances and immersing herself so well in the culture. She is independent and comfortable in her own company, but also a joy to be around. I totally recommend Ellen to future Hosts. Her housekeeping, cooking, DIY, musical skills and good sense of humour will bring happiness to any household.

I stayed with Sinéad for just over two weeks and it was a lovely experience for my first workaway! I arrived during festival week in Belmullet which was very exiciting, and Sinéad made me aware of the many events going on while I was there so I always had many things to choose from to do in my free time.
Work:
My work here was mostly painting
… read more furniture. I also did some cooking and cleaning and of course spent time with Bláithín the poodle (who I even got to take to a dog show in Belmullet <3). The expectations were very reasonable and clear.
Accommodation/the area:
I had a lovely private room for myself with a big bed and everything was very clean. Sinéad has a lovely house so it was a pleasure to stay there. The house is also right in Belmullet town so one has access to bus service and also the town itself, which is ideal. The town is small but vibrant and the local community are very sociable and will always have time for the chat. The weather was pretty horror the whole time I was there but I expected that so it didn't detract from my overall experience.
Experiences/cultural exchange/other:
When I first arrived Sinéad took me on a detailed tour of the Mullet Peninsula which was a fab introduction to the area. She also brought me to some music sessions which I greatly enjoyed and also to the national park (where she works) where I got to do a paper making workshop. I also attended the Belmullet book club, which was great fun, and went to a 2 day seminar held at Solas about the Belmullet area and the assisted emigration there in the 1880s. I also got to make use of the Belmullet library and the Aras Inis Gluaire centre as a whole, which was nice as that was also a way to connect with locals. We had many wonderful nights together watching various programmes (the Rose of Tralee and Squidgame to name a few), playing games such as scrabble and Settlers of Catan, and just chatting. Sinéad also took me "swimming" one morning (I stayed in for all of 10 seconds haha) which was also a memorable experience! Sinéad is such a welcoming person and she encourages you to feel at home as soon as you arrive in Belmullet, so I would very much recommend her as a host! She also ensures that you have enough time to really avail of the many activities going on in Belmullet and also to go sightseeing as there is so much to see in Mayo alone. Thank you Sinéad and Bláithín for such a fab time, miss you both already xx

Valerie is a very kind and gentle person and I was delighted to included her in whatever activities were planned, as she was wonderful company and always seems happy. Valerie is a hard worker, being very diligent in all she undertakes. She made a huge haystack from the grass cuttings, painted and prettied the swan planters, made two lovely garden plant areas and then cleaned the house from top to bottom. I was especially happy with how she made my windows gleam and sparkle. All the while she kept Blaithin company and they formed a really special bond.
On her time off she explored the region in her car, from Erris Head to Achill Island. I swim in the Tidal Pool every morning before work during summer and Valerie joined me on the one occasion when we had a bit of sunshine, she was brave, it is hard to get down. We also discovered a talented local band in the pub, played board games and she was a super listener and confidant during a particularly challenging event I encountered during her stay. She is a beautiful person and I know she will adapt well with any Host.

We discussed what he had to do in the house and he was open to everything, even ironing for the first time. I made photos with instructions and when I was away he only contacted me if he needed clarification. He wasn't lonely because he's always doing something, meeting people, going to the gym or keeping Blaithin company. When the weather turned nice he and a friend hired bikes and went to the beach, but when I came back he had everything I asked done.
Lesley is so easy to get on with, he's such a courteous young man, full of happiness and humorous in a nice way. We had a hilarious time at a public meeting to save the Men’s Shed. Lesley understands situations and enjoys the Irish way of life, like getting a free trip on the bus. I still don't understand how he missed seeing the Northern Lights, because everybody else saw them.
Thank you Leslie for digging out the gunnera, moving the turf and cutting the brambles in the garden and for cleaning the switches, plastering the wall and painting my front doors. She will make sure you get to know the area, its people and will inform you over every possible activity (whale watching, writing and reading club, music sessions in pub...)
The workload was totally fair and consisted of garden work, painting, cleaning and dog sitting. but looking after blaithin was more pleasure than work because she is a energetic love sponge who loves to cuddle.

Letja is a beautiful person, with smiling eyes and a witty, impish sense of humour. I learned all about the Dutch Polders, Friesland and Zeeland and she very kindly helped me with a Netherlands translation for my work. She is eminently creative and immersed herself in many local events; the writers group, the book club, the music session and she was an active and enthusiastic participant in Mayo Day and the town’s 200year nautical light parade celebration.
She was a great help around the house with cooking, cleaning and painting. She makes delicious meals and is very diligent about her standards. She also prepared the fire and did some work in the garden. However, the main purport of Letja’s visit was to mind my dog while I took some annual leave to attend a wedding and I was confident that all was taken care of under her watch. Thank you Letja for this personal time and for your lovely poem.
Having her own transport was an asset and she explored the National Park and other visitor sites during her stay. Letja loves life and her enthusiasm is infectious. I feel all the richer for being in her company and sharing our stories. She is a delight to be around.

Highlights of our time together was going to Barbie the movie in the cinema and watching films from the library at home by the fire in the evenings, as well as playing Catan and other board games. In the evenings we would have chats and learn new expressions. ‘Forest Gump’ being one that comes to mind
Because Fanny had her own transport, she had a lot of scope to explore the surrounding area. Initially I took her on the Peninsula tour and she found other Workaways to meet up with as well. Two outstanding occasions of our time together were our super National Park hike in Letterkeen and attending the lovely International Women’s Day event. In the evenings we often sat together, played some board games or enjoyed watching a tv show. If you want a really fun time I highly recommend going down to the pub on the weekends. There you’ll find good beer plus nice live music.
My biggest jobs were painting her spare room and taking care of the sweet Bláithín, her dog. Some other tasks included garden work, cleaning her studio and painting some other parts of the house. All of the jobs were manageable and the work hours were flexible.
I truly enjoyed my time with Sinead (and Bláithín)! Thank you so much for this experience, till we meet again :)
Sophie was with me nearly all of November, for three weeks. She was a pleasure to host. She minded and played with the dog while I was at work, as well as helping me with DIY projects and in the evening we would sit and chat by the fire and watch movies. She even got to see the Irish cultural phenomenon ‘The Late Late Toy Show’. We went down to

Christmas was a theme, Sophie decorated my tree and one day we were both invited to see the wonderful Christmas House in Belmullet. We spent a couple of lovely hours there topped off with seasonal refreshments in the local bakery. Before Sophie left, we ventured north to Downpatrick Head to see the sea stack and got a wonderful surprise to see Santa Clause on his motorbike in Ballina as well as the nature illuminations in the museum garden. We visited all the beauty spots on the Peninsula and she walked Erris Head. She also got to see Castlebar and Westport, but a highlight was the day on Achill Island via the goat center in Mulranny.
Thank you Sophie for your delightful company and for all the help from keeping things clean, bringing in the turf, cutting the hebe, painting under the stairs, painting the feeling room (twice) and for looking after Blaithin while I was away. I hope you do lots more Workaways and any Host will be very lucky to have you.

Sinead was a truly amazing host. I immediatley felt at ease around her and I definitely think fate brought us together! I stayed in Belmullet for a little over two weeks and in that time I got to see so many breathtaking scenes. She made it a priority to show me around the area, which I really appreciated. My tasks were both enjoyable and

Belmullet is such a sweet area, I really enjoyed walking by the bay each day, swimming in the tidal pool, picking wild blackberries, hiking up to Erris Head and around Wild Nephin National Park, preparing dinner for us in the evenings - the list goes on and on. I got to see and experience SO much in such a short amount of time, all thanks to Sinead. I couldn’t have asked for a better Workaway experience. I think fate had a hand in Lenny arriving just in time for Electric Picnic. While I was away she painted walls, stair skirting, two doors and a radiator as well as keeping the house clean and tidy and looking after and walking the dog. In the couple of weeks she stayed, she got to hike up Erris Head, visit Ballycroy Visitor Centre, walk in Wild

Lenny is wonderful company, very relaxed but also hard working. She is intuitive and was super help around the house. She is an awesome cook, her burritos are class and she can assemble the nicest food in no time at all (fruit with every meal). Since she is a film graduate, I was eager to avail of her skills. She made two beautiful slide shows for marketing The Studio: one of all the stunning places to visit in the area and the other chronicles its transition and the work done over this year. Both so professional and very valuable creative additions.
I really could not believe my luck when Lenny contacted me, she arrived at just the perfect time and her work is so appreciated. I would recommend her to any Host and I hope you have marvellous adventures in astounding places Lenny, you deserve only the best.

I stayed with Sinead for ten days in the beginning of June. During this time, I helped finishing the studio downstairs. I did a lot of painting, moving stuff, and I helped varnishing the floor. After a day's work we had dinner (mind that you have to cook for yourself so come up with a meal before you go to the supermarket and not IN the

All in all, thank you, Sinead, for your hospitality and until we meet again.Laissé par l'hôte pour le workawayer (Linde)
The first evening Linde arrived, she asked if I minded if she practiced her Flute, I was delighted and she took part in a couple of the music sessions in the pub as well as playing on the boat out to Inishkea Island. She was a big hit everywhere she went.
She didn’t practice another hobby of taxidermy, but she did put her embroidery skills to

Linde and Mel were inseparable, great buddies, and in four days of really intense effort they really did transformational work on ‘The Studio’. They relaxed by the fire watching ‘Outlander’ in the evening or played Catan and Splendor.
Linde is also great at organising and tidying and did exceptionally well at organising the scrap wood in the garden. She and I went for a few enjoyable swims at the Tidal Pool and she has a killer sense of humour. She has excellent manners and I appreciated the gift of the Dutch chocolate sprinkles.
Linde is a very accomplished young lady and a delight to be around. I would recommend her to any Host and Linde you are always welcome back to Co. Mayo.

I stayed with Sinead for more than two weeks and I really had a great time. Sinead is a kind and lovely person and makes you feel very comfortable. Svenja was with me for a couple of weeks in May/June when we had the lovely hot weather. From the get-go I could tell that Mo had excellent cleaning standards, which is exactly the skill set I needed for letting The Studio this August. We had a few mad busy days, but Mo always keeps her cool and gets the job done. Spontaneous is her Irish middle name!
In-between all the cleaning she helped hugely with DIY, painting doors, bannisters

On her days off she took the free bus to the National Park and she also visited Westport and hiked up Erris Head. Mo I really felt so comfortable in your company, you are such a lovely person. I valued our chats and you were such a support to me, thank you. You have a super sense of humour and I only wish I had more time to spend together.
Hosts, if you are lucky enough to have Mo stay, you will be very fortunate indeed. Mo is a hard worker, gives 100% and is a perfectionist. She is very clued-in and can anticipate what needs doing. She has excellent English and was equally great at Scrabble.

Mel arrived in early April in her camper, with all her power tools. We had a lovely Easter weekend getting to know each other while painting eggs and beach-combing before my trip to Berlin. She also introduced lots of alternative ways of cleaning, using vinegar and baking soda, even replacing detergent with ivy leaves. She discovered that volunteering is a great way to get to know people in Ireland and she took part in President Biden’s visit to Ballina and the Galway Theatre Festival. The highlight of her stay has to be the day we went to the Westport Dog Show, hearts and ribbons were won that day!
Thank you Mel for all your amazing work, for the board game evenings, the music sessions and for your friendship. I would certainly recommend Mel to any Host and I have already provided a glowing reference, because Mel is one in a million.
Laissé par l'hôte pour le workawayer (Lauren)
I was really looking forward to Lauren’s visit as her journalism, photography, creative writing, social media management and tik-tok videos making skills were to be put to good use at just the right time. However, it is a testament to Lauren’s impressive character that she was still willing to help me write some copy for on-line resources. Once she got the website up and running and designed the pages, I was able to upload the content and I became confident using the site, under her guidance.
Thank you so much Lauren for your unstinting commitment, I couldn’t have done it without you. You didn’t get to do your trip to Achill, to hike or kayak in this area or try out our hammocks, but I know you had a nice time in Ireland. All the best, you are very talented and kind.

Sitting on the brink of natural wonders is indeed a good description of Belmullet, Ruby.

Regarding the work, I had to take care of her lovely poodle while Sinead was working at the National Park. I also did some tasks in the garden and DIY things in the house, mainly started to organize and transform a new room.
Everyday we had a discussion after she came back home about what have been done during the day and decided what could be done the following days. I really appreciated to participate on Sinead's poject and see the evolution of the work during my stay.
Regarding the time I spent with her, everithing is positive. At home, our chats around the fire, watching movies, playing with the dog or playing board games, it was always fun. Not forgetting, thank you for helping me cook and teach me new recipes.
During my free time Sinead brought me to different places in Mayo. One day we visited Belmullet and the peninsula. Another day we went to Achill Island and watched "The Banshees of Inisherin" at the local cinema which I really enjoyed. The last week we went to the National Park and she shared with me her knowledge about nature and biodiversity. He is good-humoured and very witty, in a nice way, he made me laugh, especially his dance moves while listening to ‘twee’ music on our road trips to Achill, the National Park and Westport. He enjoyed our time exploring the Peninsula too and even came first in the Erris Park Run, a major achievement.
