Description
We are a non profit community based organization working with disadvantaged children in Gomba district of Uganda. We provide them with love, hope, basic education, scholastic materials, self-reliance skills, clothes and food.
My name is Samuel and wife Lucy are the co-founders of this organization to help and support these less privileged children in Gomba district attain the required education. We are both teachers by profession and work full time with children.
Children in Gomba district face many challenges that hinder them from going to school. Like poverty, moving long distances to schools, lack of scholastic materials to mention but a few. This makes many of those school going children to drop out and do not complete their studies.
That’s how Friends of Children in Gomba comes in to help these less privileged children by providing those small things that can keep them in school, complete their studies, and become better citizens of tomorrow.
Organization Vision: To support that disadvantaged child in Gomba district become a better and responsible citizen tomorrow.
Mission: To help the less privileged children in Gomba district with these small items that can make them achieve their goals in life.
Through our friends that respond to our call, we are able to get scholastic materials for these children and they attend school with a smile on their faces. A part from classroom teaching activities, we promote their talents through sports and agricultural skills so that they can supplement on the food grown at their respective homes and schools hence reducing the hunger syndrome.
That is why we call upon volunteers that are willing to support the less privileged children in rural areas of Uganda achieve their goals of life to come and support us. As we join hands together, we can change the learning environment of these children, their thinking about matters of the world, and giving them hope plus the purpose of living.
We currently work in three schools but as a volunteer you are free to choose where to work. But you are not limited to visit or work in all the three schools. Our schools are all located in rural areas where we have no electricity. But our volunteers sleep in Kanoni town which has electricity and internet network. Two schools are very near from Kanoni town. One is 3km on the right side of Kanoni town and another is 5km on the left side of Kanoni town. We use Okada (motorcycles) to travel to schools and coming back to kanoni town daily. The third school is far from Kanoni town a distance of 85km. It is the furthest of all schools in Gomba district.
Workawayers will explore different cultural experiences, the green environment, wild animals like monkeys, chimpanzes, and gorrillas, lakes like Victoria, Albert and many water falls like Bujagali and sipi falls. The equator and game parks like Queen Elizabeth National Game Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. So come, experience, learn and enjoy.
You will enjoy local meals prepared by Lucy and interact with different people in Gomba district. You will visit the local farmers and the type of tools used for gardening. When volunteers prefer to change meals from the one prepared by Lucy, at Kanoni town we have some restaurants for special meals at a little cost. Bars for those who want to drink one or two beers and some daily entertainment is also available. People in the area are friendly and they always welcome visitors. They speak English, Luganda and Ganda languages.
Workawayers who are interested in exploring church activities should also come and see how people worship, praise and dedicate themselves to the Lord in Uganda. Here a workawayer interested in preaching Christianity is welcome.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre
