We are located in Oda city of Shimane, Japan which has a population of about 32,000 people. Oda has many fascinating sights like the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine(a World Heritage Site), Mt.Sanbe(a National Park) and Kotogahama Beach(a Natural Monument). You would spend wonderful life there surrounded by beautiful nature and nice people.
We are a Non Profit Organization specialized in managing community activities in Oda city. Since our organization was founded in 1992, we have received many international volunteers from all around the world.
We work mainly in 3 fields;
1. Nature
e.g.) Preservation of meadows / Maintenance of bamboo forests
2. Community
e.g.) Management of community space / Helping for local events
3. Social education
e.g.) Support the youths who have troubles / Environmental education for kids
Additionally we arrange many volunteer activities. It helps people in our city to connect with people from outside and to vitalize local communities. Please visit Oda and have fun various local activities with us!!

You can get the knowledge of how to conserve nature and developing local communities. And you will have chance to meet many people from different generations through our activities, so it is also easy to make Japanese friends here!

Aide
We need volunteers who want to experience country life and interact with local people! Your main work will ①communicate with the young people who have some difficulties like withdrawal and lack of social adaptability. ②help with elementary school classes ③interact with local people in various situation such as international exchange and tourism promotion. We also can arrange your schedules depending on your interests.
We expect you to speak conversational Japanese(at around JLPT N3-N4 level) because most staffs and locals can only speak Japanese. So please do not offer if you don't speak any Japanese...! You will meet a lot of people here and it will be a good chance to improve your language skills and experience Japanese local lifestyle.

Hébergement
You will stay in our community center. The place has good utilities (Shower rooms, Kitchen, Washing machine, Event space, Meeting rooms, Air conditioners, TV... and other things necessary for life! ).
You can normally stay in the private room except special days. We sometimes recruit over 3 volunteer for specific works in short term. In that case you would have to share your room with other volunteer.
You need to buy food and cook for yourself everyday. There is a supermarket nearby and we will pay for all of your food expenses. But our staff will sometimes take you to eat out to bars and restaurants!

Oda city is also known as tourist spot in San-in area. In your free time, you can visit many attractive places as is written in the Top. In addition you can enjoy traditional performance called "Iwami Kagura" and many kind of Onsen(hot spring) here!!

I was warned at the beginning of my stay that there's less activities during winter. But actually, I was a bit busy all long my stay and had the opportunity to help for different events and activities. So I think that during spring or summer it should be… read more
Stayed for 1 month. As being all said by previous volunteers, you will see how warm and welcoming the staffs are. Coming from Tokyo area, worked and burned out, it was a wonderful lovely place to rest in the great nature setting, and at the same time to remembe what a simple kind/sweet act… read more

Everything you need can be found in about 10 minutes by foot. There is a supermarket, LAWSON, drug stores (COSMOS is the cheapest!) and a big selection of restaurants. The members will take you out to dinner very often so do not worry about buying too much.… read more
