Description
We are a registered NGO based in Tokushima, Japan, our aim is to build a community in which companion animals can live free from suffering and cruelty. We rescue and re-home stray, abandoned abused and neglected animals and actively promote spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership through education and supportive means.

Aide
We currently house and care for approximately 200 cats and dogs. Animal care volunteers main responsibilities will be dog walking and socializing with the animals at our shelter. We are looking for self-reliant, responsible individuals.
We are also looking for individuals with carpentry skills for building and general maintenance in and around the shelter.Langues parlées

We provide long-term volunteers with free accommodations at a house located near a train station with easy access to the city. The house is a couple minutes walk from conbini and 20 walk from a supermarket. There are bicycles for volunteers use but may have to be shared.
Everything needed to live comfortably is provided (range, fridge, washer, futons, and towels, etc). Volunteers will be responsible for their own food and daily necessities. We have two cats living there so may not be a good option individuals with cat allergies.
Accommodations may be shared if there are more than one overseas our out of town volunteers with us at any one time but you will have your own bedroom.
Please note: volunteers will be responsible for the upkeep of accommodations. You are expected to clean up after yourself by washing dishes you dirty, keeping your living area organized and being respectful of shared living areas.

Transportation:
To/From the shelter: Shelter staff/volunteer can pick you up/drop you off from the volunteer accommodations.
To volunteer accommodation upon arrival in Tokushima: If you give us your schedule in advance, shelter staff/volunteer can pick you up at Tokushima-station.
Salary: We are run on a volunteer basis. Except for three hired paid regular staff member, we do not provide volunteers with salary or compensation.
Language: Most of the local volunteers and regular staff members are Japanese speakers. The founder, Susan and some volunteers can speak English.
Insurance: Please make sure to have your travel insurance. We cannot provide financial assistance for hospital visits or illnesses.
Tokushima prefecture does provide "volunteer insurance" to help cover medical costs for injuries sustained during volunteering in the country. The cost is 500 yen per year. We require volunteers to register for this insurance, so please provide your full name, address and contact information before arriving so we can prepare the paperwork.Informations complémentaires
