Description
I now live in Santa Barbara. A beautiful city. I'm in a three-bedroom house with my son and me in a quiet neighborhood. Santa Barbara is very safe, especially in my neighborhood. It's a quiet family neighborhood where everyone walks in the evenings with their kids.
I am a law student and former winemaker with a German/Austrian background. Although I speak only a little German, I also speak Spanish.
I have a guest room and plenty of good food, but a shared bathroom, as is typical in Santa Barbara. I live with my 11-year-old son at half-time and my dog Bugsy.
My brother, Arian Hallauer, is a photographer and has a website.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
I am currently in law school but have studied a variety of subjects. I am happy to show around town as my schedule allows, although I can get pretty busy with Law School.
As a child growing up on a vineyard and horse farm in the Santa Ynez Valley, my family would have travelers from Europe and other parts of the world come and stay with us every year for weeks or months. I remember this fondly as these were exciting people with personalities and stories different than typical Americans. As a child, my parents owned a horseback riding travel agency that sold horseback equestrian trips worldwide so that they would take me to a new country every year for an adventure. I am a well-traveled person. Recently, I traveled to Colombia and Vietnam, and I am going to Peru in a few weeks. I like talking about wine and music; I am learning violin, politics, and cooking (I specialize in the local Santa Maria-style BBQ, literature, and science. I got my degree in Evolutionary Biology. Life-long learning is a passion, and I am currently reading books on psychology, organizing, and investing and am studying for law school.

Aide
I am seeking assistance from a fluent German speaker for a project that involves searching through documents and my deceased father's diaries, written in German, to retrieve specific information I need. I will only accept a German speaker at this time, as this is an urgent project, and I do not usually take people except for in August. I apologize, but non-German speakers do not need to request my availability at this time.

I'd like to learn German, improving my Spanish, and I used to speak a little French but very rusty.

Autres infos...
There are beaches, State Street, Funk Zone, the Mission, botanical gardens, concerts at The Bowl, the pier, and hiking. Once a week, I spend a day in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley, 45 minutes away, and you can take me to the tourist towns of Solvang. If I can free up my time, I can be there for you and show you Santa Barbara. A few blocks away is a park with a trail leading up the Santa Barbara mountains. I am about a five-minute drive from downtown and the beach. Tourists usually shop, eat, and drink on Lowe State Street, and the Funk Zone, but plenty of restaurants are closer to where I live on Upper State Street.

I had an incredibly wonderful, relaxing, and enriching time with you, your family and friends. Thank you so much for opening your home to me and allowing me to be a part of it. She was upbeat and fun to be around. She was also so very helpful and enthusiastic to participate in the household in every way. You couldn't ask for a better Workawayer! I hope she will visit again.
Kai is one of the most hospitable people you can ever meet. I was his workawayer (honestly, I was more like his guest) for 2 weeks. He, his father Wolfgang, his boy Harlow and his dog Bugsy have been an important part of my life for those two weeks, and I got a lot of love from them.
