  Description

  We are a family-run nonprofit organization with a heart for children, families, and communities who are facing difficult circumstances. For many years, our lives have been dedicated to serving people in Ghana through education, healthcare, nutrition, community outreach, and practical acts of love.
  
  The Foundation was founded by Mary and has been serving communities in and around Cape Coast for more than 15 years. What began as a desire to help vulnerable children and struggling families has grown into a much larger community project.
  
  Over the years, we have worked with children suffering from malnutrition, families unable to afford basic necessities, and communities with limited access to healthcare and education. Our activities have included medical and community health outreaches, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, malaria testing, basic wound care, food and clothing distribution, assistance for vulnerable children, educational support, and many other community projects.
  
  We believe that meaningful change happens through relationships. We don't simply want to visit a community, give something away, and leave. We want to know people, understand their needs, walk alongside them, and help create opportunities that can make a lasting difference.
  
  The School
  
  One of the projects closest to our hearts is a school, which we started in 2021.
  
  The school was born from our work with vulnerable and underprivileged children. We realized that helping a child with food or clothing was important, but education could help change the direction of that child's entire life.
  
  Today, our school serves approximately 120 children with the help of more than 20 dedicated staff members. We use a child-centered, Montessori-inspired approach to education and work hard to create a safe, loving, encouraging environment where children can learn and grow.
  
  Many of the children come from families facing significant financial challenges. Because of this, our work goes far beyond normal classroom education.
  
  We provide meals for our students every school day, because for some children the food they receive at school may be among the most dependable meals they receive. We also provide transportation for many of our students so that children who otherwise might not be able to attend school can receive an education.
  
  Despite the challenges they face, our children continue to amaze us with their academic progress, creativity, determination, and joy.
  
  Our school is still developing, and there is much work to be done. We continually need educational materials, classroom furniture, improvements to our facilities, and financial support for food, transportation, staff, and school expenses. One of our greatest long-term dreams is to purchase our own land and build a permanent home for the school so that generations of children can benefit from this project.
  
  Volunteering With Us
  
  International volunteers have been an important part of our story. Over the years, we have welcomed people from many different countries, cultures, professions, and backgrounds.
  
  There are many ways you can become involved depending on your experience, interests, and abilities. Volunteers may help with teaching and classroom activities, English practice, sports, arts and crafts, games, educational projects, administrative work, community outreach, fundraising ideas, photography and social media, maintenance projects, or simply spending meaningful time with the children.
  
  Volunteers with backgrounds in education, healthcare, public health, childcare, sports, communications, nonprofit work, or community development may also have opportunities to share their knowledge and experience with our team where appropriate.
  
  You don't need to be an expert to make a difference. Sometimes the most valuable thing you can bring is your willingness to serve, learn, share your culture, and build genuine relationships.
  
  Experience Ghana With Us
  
  We also want volunteering to be a cultural exchange.
  
  Cape Coast is one of Ghana's most historic and beautiful areas. When possible, we enjoy helping our volunteers experience Ghanaian culture and community life beyond the project.
  
  Depending on the timing of your stay, you may have opportunities to experience local festivals and events, visit Cape Coast Castle, explore Kakum National Park, spend time at the beach, enjoy Ghanaian food, meet local people, and experience everyday life in Ghana.
  
  Some of our volunteers have also joined us for special community events, including Orange Friday, one of the exciting street celebrations associated with Cape Coast's Fetu Afahye festival.
  
  We want you to leave Ghana with more than photographs. We hope you leave with friendships, memories, a deeper understanding of Ghanaian culture, and the feeling that you became part of our family.
  
  Our Family
  
  At the heart of everything is family.
  
  The foundation and the school are not large international organizations run from an office somewhere far away. They grew from our family's desire to serve the community around us.
  
  When you volunteer with us, you are not simply another volunteer filling a position. We want you to become part of our daily life and part of the extended Foundation family.
  
  We have hosted volunteers and visitors from around the world, and some have remained friends and supporters long after returning home. Those relationships are one of the things we treasure most.
  
  Who We Are Looking For
  
  We welcome volunteers who are kind, respectful, flexible, responsible, and genuinely interested in learning about Ghana and contributing to the community.
  
  Life here may be very different from what you are accustomed to. Things do not always happen according to a perfect schedule, resources can sometimes be limited, and flexibility is important. But if you arrive with an open mind, patience, creativity, and a willingness to participate, your experience can be incredibly rewarding.
  
  We especially appreciate volunteers who take initiative. If you see something you can help with, share your ideas with us. If you have a skill that could benefit the school or foundation, we would love to hear about it.
  
  Most importantly, come ready to build relationships.
  
  Our children love meeting people from different parts of the world, and cultural exchange can be a wonderful learning experience for everyone involved. At the same time, we want every interaction with our children to be respectful, responsible, and centered on their wellbeing.
  
  Our Dream for the Future
  
  Our vision is much bigger than simply operating a school.
  
  We want to continue building a place where children can receive quality education, nutritious food, encouragement, and opportunities regardless of the financial circumstances into which they were born.
  
  We want to expand our community health and outreach programs, strengthen families, create opportunities for young people, and eventually establish a permanent campus for Sovereign Grace School.
  
  There is still a long road ahead of us, and we cannot accomplish everything alone.
  
  That is why volunteers, friends, partners, and supporters from around the world have become such an important part of our journey.

  Apart from our health care programs, we also take our volunteers
  on-site seeing to famous places such as the castles in Cape Coast and Elmina, which are known as the ancestral home of the slaves. This is a powerful experience, helping visitors understand and feel the impact of slavery in the very place it all began.
  
  Also, the Kakum National Park has a canopy walk that is 350 meters (1,150ft) long and connects to strong trees tops which gives a beautiful view of the forest from the canopy of undisturbed African rain forest. and also your guides that gives
  information on certain trees, plants and their uses, as well as and animals like white
  beasted guninee fowl, hornbill, grey parrots and the African
  elephants.
  
  There are unlimited opportunities for academic lectures, music and dance, and the frequent festivals keep the joyful Ghanians celebrating and dancing in the streets! This festive season is a massive display of rich African culture and climaxes during Orange Friday where the whole Cape Coast is painted in Orange colors.
  
  Cape Coast is well-known for its beautiful beaches and well-cooked local dishes, as well as our own local drink called Palm Wine.
  
  There are well-trained health professionals, (many of them trained in the US and Europe) and professional security officers that make Cape Coast a very safe environment.
  
  You will leave Cape Coast with a lifetime of memories, positive lessons and life-long friendships that will keep you coming back for more.

  Hébergement

  We have a two-bedroom house with a spacious car park. We have
  lights and running water. There is a kitchen, cleaned bathrooms,
  and washrooms with detergent available but can use yours if you
  want to. Each room has a well-Haid bed, table, and chair, fan and
  
  sockets and there is privacy and it's safe. And free from noise. A
  short walk to get a taxi or bus which makes transportation easier.
  
  We can cook food for our guests, such as local and certain
  continental dishes provided we can cook them or if they want
  continental dishes it can be made available through restaurants
  that are known for their well cooked food at hygiene places.
