    UPDATE:
Unfortunately, we weren't able to sustain our project financially in time, so have gone to Australia for a while to rebuild a stable base. It is our intention to still try to improve things there in Moalboal, so we may bump into you in the future.

Previously hosted a lot of Workawayers in New Zealand, I now live in Moalboal, Cebu, Philippines with my partner. We are happy to have easy-going people come and stay on our off-grid property located in the same town as some great diving spots.

Our aim is to build an eco-resort on the land, consisting of bamboo huts, vegetable garden and composting toilets. We are also involved in plastics cleanup inland and in the coastal areas as part of our project, Beautiful Moalboal. In exchange for hosting you, we'd like you to help us to clean up Moalboal and make it more beautiful!

Accommodation in Moalboal is not expensive at all, so you won't save much by doing Workaway, but you will definitely get a more local experience and we hope you will enjoy being a part of the projects we're doing here.

The Philippines is an interesting place. Such friendly people, beautiful nature and some great food (if you know where to look!).

It's not a country without challenges and you'll see instances of poverty and pollution, the later, at least, you'll be able to have some impact on during your stay.

As we are learning how to cultivate, harvest, treat and work with bamboo, you can also learn this along with us.

There are local people doing weaving of baskets and other native crafts, if you're keen to learn.

Never snorkelled or scuba dived? The coral reef here is a great place to see big sea turtles or swim near a school of shining silver sardines,

Ideally, we'll have you volunteer from morning until lunchtime, when the weather is cooler. You'll have afternoons and evenings to yourselves to explore the region, go snorkeling, etc.

Help with our plastics cleanup work. Other than that, working on our land in preparation for building an Eco Retreat will provide enough to keep you engaged. We've started creating paths with sand, rocks or mulch. We can get bamboo quite cheaply and have a few tools if you fancy yourself a bit of a builder.

Artistic installations would also be cool, made with organic materials we can help source.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

UPDATE: We've quickly become full for January and February for the guest house, but if you are willing to camp in the undeveloped land (we will provide tent, sleeping things), then please still contact us, as we can accommodate more this way. You'll still be able to use the showers, kitchen, WiFi, etc at the guest house, but sleeping will need to be in a tent on the undeveloped land.

If you're feeling adventurous, sleep in a tent outside or in our little bamboo hut on the future site of the eco village.

The bamboo hut, shown in photos, has no walls, but is protected from the rain by its nipa roof. If it's not raining, you can fasten a hammock to a tree of your choice and sleep there :)

There's not many mosquitoes there, but we can provide citronella oil/coils to assist or provide a mosquito net.

Our family also runs a guest house in town, where you can stay in a dormitory room (maximum 5 people to a room).

There is no running water and only a sawdust toilet in the project site now, so it's likely you'll stay in the guest house.
