Description
Small Farm Animal Sanctuary, 50 KM South of Dunedin, 6km away from Milton. There are pigs, horses, sheep, chickens, turkeys, dogs. Also a large garden, a few paddocks, all surrounded by farmlands. Very rural NZ
Right now we are looking for our volunteers to arrive here just after Christmas and stay for a week or so while we have a holiday. It would be mainly animal care, a little bit of gardening and keeping house nice. Would suit a couple or a few friends. We take dogs with us! Fantastic place to be away from busy holiday places.
Large original Victorian farmhouse and grounds. For winter we have a good fire and we provide extra warm things for you when you in TV room or bedrooms. Beds have electric blankets. Please do not expect to be able to run heaters all the time. If winter be prepared with warm clothes, we are in the South of NZ!
We both work full time and need people to be here for animals throughout the day. If you say you want to come because you love animals, please be genuine about it. Also, we look for the skills we need for current projects. Please mention specific skills you have in the request email. Most wanted features on your profile- own transport, experience/skill in something, self-motivated and enthusiastic, references ideally.
Only offering 5 day stays now as work rate of most wanes so quickly when not supervised. I need people here all the time for the animals safety and really only enough work for 1 hard working person. A couple, who are prepared to not always do everything together and are capable of doing different jobs at same time. If someone is a good communicator and motivated, stay on to pass on their knowledge to incoming is ideal.
As with any household, you join you are expected to help with jobs in the house, so things are tidy and clean for all. There is something here to suit most people's abilities. Sometimes we build a project around someone's skill set.
We prefer positive people who appreciate spending time with animals, quiet time in the country but can work well with other volunteers. Plenty of food, time off, and entertainment! However, animals need someone around at all times so this needs to be considered. Be aware that because this is a Sanctuary for farm animals, only Vegan food here. We cater well for this lifestyle however do not provide special foods for anyone with allergies/gluten-free. If you require special food, please bring this for yourself. Wholesome food, plenty of it as well as baked treats. Sometimes Beer & Wine but not every day.
Most importantly our home and property is a place where the animal's happiness is the priority so please only apply if this aligns with your values and interests. Does not suit lethargic, skeptical or unmotivated people here. You need to be energetic and understand that caring for animals does mean some early mornings.
If you want to have a short escape from the tourist trail, surrounded by animals, stay in an interesting old house and an opportunity to make a contribution on your travels, love to hear from you!
Need to know your time frame, how you are traveling, and how you see yourself fitting in with our project. If you do not send this information, I will not be spending lots of time on emails asking all the questions. I do not make arrangements with anyone not already in NZ. Preference for people with own transport. Look up Milton on Map to see how it fits with your plans first, please.
Calendar not relevant as I will always find room for someone with a particular skill set, we need at the time.
Absolutely must love dogs (and pigs)!!
(Please note that our availability Calendar is not relevant. At any time, we may take on an extra if we have a project or if someone has particular skills we need at the time)Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Learn a lot about animal care, basic garden maintenance including vegetable gardening. Wholesome cooking and baking lessons if you want to learn. I work for a Science Company and travel for work often, happy to chat about this work if interested. Opportunity to gain confidence in taking responsibility for an animal menagerie and household. Well within all sensible peoples' abilities.
Aide
Need help with animals, gardens and household chores. Sometimes outdoors projects on the property or renovation inside. Please say if you have some specific practical skills.
Nothing too difficult but need people with initiative, maturity and who like being outdoors.
You will be doing tasks independently most of the time while we are at work so you need to be able to self-manage and be happy in own company and with other volunteers.
We like people to be here only if they understand that our project is mainly about giving these animals a good life and also fixing up and maintaining this very old home and large garden.Langues parlées

Hébergement
Downstairs double bedroom or upstairs double bedroom. Electric blankets on beds and plenty of bedding and extras in room. Unlimited wifi and Netflix. House has 3 bathrooms, one brand new, for volunteers.
I cook all the meals unless you want to help, which I greatly appreciate. Plenty of food for big appetites! Plant based meals as this is a Animal Sanctuary, not a farm.
We really try to run a tidy organized home, for the benefit of everyone so appreciate you trying to be tidy here too.
There are sometimes B&B Guests here too so everyone needs to fit in around this as this helps support the animals.Autres infos...
Good stop between Dunedin and the Catlins, Southland, Fiordland or Queenstown.
Prefer own transport but sometimes possible to collect you off bus at Milton.
