I'm looking to explore all over New Zealand while helping out however and wherever I can!

Description

Hello! My name is Kevin. I'm an aspiring science teacher from the United States, looking to explore, learn, and work before I settle into teaching. I was inspired to come to New Zealand by fellow travelers I've met who did the same before they began their careers as teachers. I hope to use this opportunity to learn more about myself, others, and how I can develop a more sustainable lifestyle. I also hope to use the lessons and perspectives that I learn abroad to enhance my teaching back home. New Zealand is far from my home in Vermont, but that's part of what motivated me to go!

Another big draw to New Zealand, and to Workaway, was the outdoorsiness of the offerings! I spent my younger years travelling to visit family in rural Vermont, where I'd help around the farms and explore the outdoors. As soon as I could, I moved up there and have loved it since. Some outdoor hobbies that bring me joy are gardening, hiking, swimming, and caring for animals. Some indoor hobbies that bring me joy are watching movies, cooking, whittling, writing, and telling jokes that my students (and sometimes friends) don't laugh at. I'm always looking for more hobbies and skills that I can pick up. I love to learn stuff!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have experience in gardening (including weeding, planting, harvesting, and invasive species identification and removal), cooking, and housekeeping. I've spent my whole life around animals, and have extensive experience caring for dogs, cats, chickens, and rodents. I've also worked with goats and cows. I'm fairly tech savvy, especially with computers. From my degree in education, I have experience working with children of all ages.

I also have possess expertise in serving soft serve ice cream. I make a mean swirl! I've heard about real fruit ice cream in New Zealand and am excited to try it.

For fun, I enjoy watching all sorts of movies, playing overly complex (and some easy) board games, playing instruments, and writing! I also am a beginner whittler, and would like to continue building that skill as I travel.
