Description
We are a St. Louis couple looking to challenge what sustainable living can mean in an urban context. In 2021, we purchased a vacant lot from the city landbank in the vibrant Benton Park West neighborhood in St. Louis City. We are now in the second year of constructing an environmentally regenerative tiny house from mostly reclaimed/upcycled materials and creating a urban organic farm/permaculture garden space. This project is made possible by a strong community and the beautiful people who make it up.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
You can expect to learn about alternative building, sustainable energy, and community. Tiggs is a master craftsman and can build anything from nothing. I am passionate about gardening and am excited to create a vibrant and diverse garden space. Through this project, a beautiful and diverse community of neighbors, activists, WorkAwayers, and other wonderful people have come together to support what we are doing. We are part of a foodshare network - several times a week we rescue quality food that was destined for the landfill and share it with the community. You can expect to meet, and share a meal with, some of the many people who have made this project possible.

We are looking for Workawayers who can help with us, and our two kids (9 and 11 years old), with the construction of an environmentally sustainable tiny house and help in the garden. More than just a functional, minimalistic living space, this house will be a creative expression with opportunities for volunteers to show off their artistic skills.
We are asking for 5 hours of work, 5 days a week from Workawayers and will provide accommodations and shared meals or food to prepare your own meals. Our program is designed for short-term stays (2 weeks maximum). There are opportunities for longer stays if it is a good fit - all Workawayers must have the ability to transition elsewhere after they complete their time volunteering with us.Langues

You could stay in our recently renovated "micro apartment" - a small living space built inside a cargo container. The micro apartment has a futon, working sink, and air conditioning. Another option would be to stay in the tiny house itself. We are still actively working on both of these spaces and you can be part of making it come to life! The bathroom/shower is located 100 meters away in the woodshop/studio.
Autres infos...
We are located in a diverse and historic neighborhood just two blocks from Cherokee Street, where you can find coffee shops, live music, bars, and the best tacos in the world. The Gateway Arch, St. Louis Zoo, Forest Park, and downtown are just a short drive or bike ride away. Take an evening stroll to enchanting Benton Park or adventure down to the magnificent Mississippi. Right off historic Route 66, you will get to experience one of the most famous highways in the world. A day's drive will bring you to Lake of the Ozarks, Merrimac Caverns, impressive state parks, wineries, and more!
