Volunteering placement with us in Fiji offers a diverse, exciting & highly cultural experience in a warm, friendly, vibrant, community-minded nation. This experience is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the traditional Fijian way of life, which is still prominently visible today. You are given the chance to fully integrate into the tight-knit community of a rural village or school life and make a positive difference in the lives of the local children. further details available on what we are trying to achieve on our website.

It is customary to present a gift of yaqona, which is also known as kava. You will have to provide one Waka (Traditional kava roots) to present your sevusevu (gift) to the Chief of the Village to get his blessing for you to stay within the Village.

Please note a police certificate/clearance from your origin Country will be required as we are working with Kids and within the school compound, as this is the Policy.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

The accommodation will be within a remote Village in Fiji, and is called Bureta Village, on Ovalau Island.

Pacific Ark is responsible for providing your accommodation and the living standards are quite different. You are offered a room in a shared house. Toilet and shower facilities will be available but will not be equipped with hot water. We take a maximum of 2x volunteers, and you will possibly be sharing a room that might include a male and female sharing two single beds (TBC with hosts). The weather in Fiji is tropical and it rains frequently so this is generally not an issue.

You will be expected to cater for your own food. Since we live on the other side of the island, you can make a quick stop at Levuka town and buy what you need. Root crops, vegetables, and rice make up the staple diet. Fijian meals are quite hearty and carbohydrate-heavy, they can be low in protein and calcium therefore it is advisable to take a good multivitamin whilst you adjust. (Protein bars may also be beneficial for snacks.) Breakfast and lunch are generally quite light and basic. Fijians do not generally snack during the day.

Internet usage is available and Digicel has reception in Bureta.

Please abide by the general House rules that will be shared with you in advance.

For travel options, you can take a bus from the mainland, and then a ferry to Levuka, details will be shared once we have confirmed your stay.
