Description
Hi! We are a Spanish-Dutch family of four living in a cortijo (farm) in Andalucía. We have two daughters (8yo and 1 yo), and we share our life with 2 donkeys, a bunch of chicken, a few goats, a turkey, some cats, and Mozo, our dog.
While Arris works from home for his IT company, I (Isa) take care of the land, animals, house and family. If you'd like to share our life with us, and be part of our daily routine, very connected to nature and its cycles, this is a place for you!
Disclaimer: We don’t sell any produce to the public or make any money with it. We do bring our olives to the mill but we keep most of the olive oil for our own use, and the rest is kept by the mill to pay for the expenses :)

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
Our farm is located 10 min walking from the village of Caniles, and the whole area is part of the Badlands Geopark, a huge extension of land where geology is king. We are at the doorstep of the Sierra de Baza, where there are plenty of hiking opportunities, abandoned villages, mushrooms picking, and what not. There are hotsprings near by (and they are hot!), the town of Baza offers quite some cultural entertainment, and our own village has its cafes and tapas bars too ;)
We are 1h away from the beautiful and historic city of Granada, and 1.15h away from the Mediterranean Sea (Mojácar). Plenty to see and to do around us!
You can enjoy this area and submerge yourself in the culture and ways of living of a small village in the South of Spain while being part of our family's routines. You'll be able to practice Spanish (or English) with us, and you'd learn a lot about caring for the land, regenerative agriculture, and traditional farming.
We are looking forward to learn from you too. From your culture, your specific knowledge, and just by doing life together.

Aide
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who love the outdoor, animals, and DIY projects.
We would like someone that is excited to share our daily routine, which includes feeding the animals, cleaning their stables, taking care of the vegetable garden, planting new trees and all kind of plants, and bringing to life all kind of small projects.
You'd help me (Isa) take care of the farm and the land. That includes lots of random projects, like building stone walls, reorganizing the chicken den, clearing grass, working on the gardens, or fixing the irrigation system. There is always something to do!

I (Isabel) am fluent in English, and Spanish is my mother tongue. I lived in France for a while, and whilst my French is quite rusty, I would welcome someone to practice it with. I also lived and studied Hebrew for a while (and have forgotten most of it), and would love to have someone to practice it with again. My husband and daughter are fluent in Dutch too. I can understand it, but speaking it is beyond my powers.
Hébergement
We have a camper van located in our land, in a separated fenced plot that would give you lots of privacy. You would share the meals with us, but you'd have your own little space to retire and rest when needed.
We live in a renovated old cortijo (with caves inside!), with lots of sun and space.
Regarding meals, we try to eat as local and seasonal as possible. We love anything nature offers us, including meat, dairy, and eggs, although we are not daily meat eaters.
Because you are staying in your own caravan with its own kitchen, we will provide the main meal (that would be lunch in Spain). We have two small children and breakfast and dinner time are quite hectic, and often depending on school & after school activities. Therefore it's easier if you take care of your own breakfast and dinner at your own rhythm :)
Regarding breakfast & dinner, we won't provide the ingredients. There are several shops in the village with local produce, and the weekly market where it's easy to find anything you need.
We can provide fresh vegetables & fruits from our garden when the season allows it.
Autres infos...
It is fairly easy to get here (or at least the the town of Baza, 7 kms from us, where we are more than happy to give you a lift) by public transport, and depending on how long you stay there is plenty for you to do without the need of a car, but having one (or a driving license) will give you freedom to explore even more.
