    Hello everyone! I am Nele and my partner is Lucas⭐
    We're a couple from Germany using my account for now to travel Latinoamérica. You can find Lucas' individual introduction below mine :-)

    +++ Neles introduction 🌼+++
    In 2016 I finished my university-entrance diploma in Germany since then, I've been all over the place studying and working and traveling through workaway. :-)

    I grew up in a small village with some pretty mediocre mountains around 130 km away from Cologne. For 18 years I lived on a kind of farm with my parents and my older brother. I adore and appreciate animals and nature, I'm lucky that for most time of my life, I had them around me.

    Now that I've moved from city to city, I feel like I'm missing my connection to nature, which makes me kind of sad; So I'm trying to get back to my natural origin through my travels. Since being outside makes everyone calm; I guess we can all profit from some inner peace ☀️

    Right now, I'm living in a city (Gießen) close to Frankfurt am Main with my thirteen LOVELY roommates and one furry roommate, and I love them very much and appreciate not having to live alone. There is always someone to hang out with and it's great.

    So here I am, trying to combine being outside all the time with animals and nature with living in a city and trying to be an academic person. Let me tell you, I think and I hope it will all work out someday haha

    I have a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and currently, I'm studying to get a Bachelor's degree in Psychology as well, so I can go and get a Master's degree in Social Psychology or something related. BUT in the far future, my real dream is to become an artist and run a Porridge & Pancake House, so wish me luck

    During my studies, I've been at various jobs: From mounting percussion instruments to working at a vet (for small animals) as a veterinary assistant for a year. Then, I started working at a gym in the sauna and at the reception desk, and I have to admit it was a relaxing job. After that, I used to work at a café/bar, which I enjoyed very much because my coworkers were just lovely and most of the guests were very fun. Right now, I work with neurodiverse children (aged between 9 and 14) in a day group, paid by a non-profit organisation. As a second job, I'm working as a cleaning staff member in student housing.

    Besides that, maybe a few words for what I think is important for you to know about me: I think I am good at working on my own, but I also really appreciate good company with friendly, kind, and respectful people. I've formed a lot of special bonds through working with other lovely workawayers and hosts, and I intend to make more of such bonds🍀

    +++ Lucas' introduction 🌺 +++
    Hello :)
    My name is Lucas, I recently turned 26, and I currently live in a small town called Giessen (like Nele). I’m an open hearted, communicative, curious, adventurous, and self-confident human being. I love exploring, spending time with all kinds of people, going into nature, debating (or philosophizing) about interesting topics, and doing all kinds of sports.

    I grew up in a small rural village close to Giessen. Ever since I can remember I explored the woods and the nature around my childhood home. The love for nature continued through my young adulthood and I’m still spending a lot of time outside in nature whenever I can, which gives me comfort and happiness.
    I always felt connected to animals, that’s why I call myself very lucky that I was able to grow up with my dear tom cat, called Ames. Which I had a special connection to and was always there for me. Also horses always played a large role in my family. My Granddad Jean-Claude Dysli (you can look him up on Wikipedia) brought Quarter-Horses to Europe. Thats also how my parents met each other, and we had two horses (Major and Speedie Gonzales) until my adolescence.

    When I moved out of my parents’ home in 2019 to the city of Darmstadt (where I did my Bachelors) I moved into a shared house, with 7 people. I was extremely lucky and blessed to meet so many new and inspiring people there, that felt like family for me.

    I studied Cognitive Science which is a very interdisciplinary subject, but broadly broken down it combines my interests in the human psyche and computer science.

    In my free time my hobbies are doing all kinds of sports in general. Most favourably I go cycling, which also includes bike packing with my friends (on our last trip, a friend and I traveled from the middle of Germany to Portugal 🚲). I cannot say how much joy it brings me to being able to see that much of the world. I also enjoy playing basketball, football, frisbee and badminton, but really all types of sport, most favourably with other people :)

    The second most favourable thing I do in my free time is really just spending time with my friends, but also meeting new people. To hit up and play board games, chit chat or just explore our world together is something that I could not miss. But sometimes, if my social battery is drained, there is nothing better for me to just grab a good book and read or to journal my thoughts and experiences of the past days. And also reading all kinds of books.

    I am good at riding. I've been riding dressage (not like high-end professional though) for 16 years (Note: unfortunately, I haven't been on a horse since August 2022, but I'm working on it. It's rather hard to find riding lessons as an adult). By now, I'm more interested in horsemanship rather than riding a strict dressage style.

    Overall, I have experience with handling various animals and taking care of them, which I always enjoyed most.

    Besides that, I enjoy hiking and generally being in nature. I go to the gym regularly for strength and resistance training. I'm also doing cardiovascular training like road bike tours, spinning, running, and swimming regularly. Last year I did my first bikepacking trip from Germany to Budapest (Hungary) with one of my flatmates :-) Soo, I think my stamina is most of the time quite good, at least I like to think that haha

    I like to do and try different kinds of sports, even though I often can't coordinate my arms and legs, BUT I'm out here giving my best.

    I grew up helping with work outside and taking care of animals (dogs, cats, horses, chickens, hamsters, rats, bunnies, guinea pigs). So when I visit my mom, I do a lot of gardening, digging in the dirt, and planting stuff. Also, I like to repair my older road bike quite often to learn how bicycles work.
    I believe I've got basic building skills since I did some building projects and woodwork during my workaway travels :-)

    Furthermore, I do really enjoy drawing and painting. I am usually most creative when I don't even intend to be so😎

    Through workaway I achieved some things, which I am very proud of:
    For example, in 2016 in Norway we managed to build two big horse shelters in only ten days, or in Scotland I learned how to plant willows in very wet ground, and in 2017 I stayed one month in Spain in an Outdoor Activity Center, where I learned how to handle tourists and take them out on rides. In 2018 I visited the beautiful United States of America two times; in Missouri, I learned a bit of western riding on Tennessee Walkers and Missouri Foxtrotters! In Tucson, AZ I learned to be me and got dressage lessons on wonderful horses AND how to plant figs, citrus trees, and all of that in very, very dry ground.
    After that workaway stay (and Covid), I went to Portugal in 2021. There, I stayed with two very lovely Dutch people and they taught me that I'm a worthy individual through their appreciation for the work (mainly digging because I chose to, haha) I did for them. Well, in 2022, I went to Canada for the first time, and I basically built a kind of wall covering out of old pallets in Sudbury, ON (also, there is a big Nickle in Sudbury, very important). There, I learned what a Sawzall is. For my second experience in Canada, I went to another very lovely farm in Marmora, ON, where I met so many wonderful people. There I really learned how much I appreciate good company and how important it is for everyone to be grateful for each other and for the small things.
    In 2023 I stayed a long time on Vancouver Island in Canada, where I took care of lovely horses, dogs, and goats and I got to experience the peaceful Canadian outdoor living. In 2024, I went to Turkey to help out in a hostel for a few weeks, where I got to paint many, many walls and we catered to a big Danish group and I learned Turkish, which I am very proud of. Last year, in 2025, I went to help the most welcoming little family on Mallorca (Spain) with daily household tasks, and their appreciation gave me a lot of confidence in my help. On Mallorca, I also discovered my love for long road bike tours. So, in conclusion: It was wonderful ☀️

    And there is so much more I learned, I am so, so, so thankful for all the skills I achieved and the people I've met; I'm looking forward to helping other people and learn new things. :-)
    🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

    +++ Lucas'skills 🐈 +++
    Throughout my life I did a lot of gardening and general house maintenance. I grew up in a beautiful, nice house with a big gorgeous garden, were my mother taught me a lot about plants, gardening and how to maintain a garden.

    I regularly do all kinds of sports. Especially strength and resistance training in the gym and outdoor gym. But more recently I started doing even more running and cycling. Thats why I also have a lot of stamina. I would therefore consider myself strong and resilient to physical labor. I’m also not afraid of getting my hands dirty and most favorable I work outdoors :)

    Here at workaway and at WWOOF I stayed at 2 farms, the first was in England where I painted a shed and did a lot of general garden work. The second farm was located on beautiful Vancouver Island, Canada. There I did a lot of physical stuff, like cutting wood and carrying stuff around. Those two experiences are unforgettable to me. They really broadened my horizon and I was able to make friends across the globe. I cannot express how much I learned being able to really get to know local people and exchange thoughts, beliefs and cultural norms.

    I worked for 3 years at an event management company. I worked as a waiter, serving drinks and generally did the logistic behind. That’s where I started to get a lot of experience working with customers.

    I grew up with computers and my knowlegde about technologies was even more fostered with my studies. I am very familiar with them and can help with all technology related things, may it be programming, operating systems, Microsoft office, ….

    I worked for a full year at the DHL (German package delivering company), which though it was stressful and physically demanding, I could really push through it.

    I am generally good with animals because I really love them and grew up with them. I worked for a week in the Swiss alps with cows and helped making Swiss cheese (also as I said we used to have horses and a cat :)

    I had a job at my University, where I taught fellow students about computer science. I just enjoy meeting many new people and being able to help them.

    Then I worked for a full year in a café. That job really made me blossom. I loved working with my team and interacting with the customers. I always had a smile on my face and tried to be as friendly and helpful as possible.

    Overall, I would just say through my curiosity, open mindedness and willingness to learn I could gain some valuable skills. I am just very grateful for all the people who were part of my learning process, and I am just looking forward so much to all the new experiences to make and even more importantly to the people that I will meet along the way
