Hi, I'm so excited to be in the next chapter of my travels, this time in Latin America!! I lived in Melbourne, Australia, for a year and then backpacked around Southeast Asia for 7 months. Having lived and also moved around at a fast pace on my travels, I'm hoping to find a middle ground and spend longer in one location through a work exchange this time around. I'm interested in helping out with anything really. I love experiences where I can gain skills, I've always admired being a jack of all trades, and I feel as though I am halfway there.

As a person, my friends value my honesty and composure. I'm open-minded and love learning about my friends' cultures and often find myself connecting with people through the many experiences and hobbies I have, but also because my love for music ranges across all continents. My favourite genres are 50s-70s Soul/Blues, 90s RnB, Lovers Rock Reggae and Country music, but I also love Polynesian Reggae, Haitian music, Arabic, Alternative/Rock, Bachata and Salsa, Bollywood and Garage. Let's just say I have over 60 playlists; my love for music is something I quite admire about myself, but I do wish I could play an instrument. I'm quite adventurous and love sports. I'm a football fan, and I always love trying new sports, but my favourites are Badminton, Muay Thai, Rounders, Basketball and Pool if that counts. I like to draw and paint, but I'm not all that good, and I'm growing my DIY skills, so I quite like to explore my creativity.

To summarise, I'm just here to learn and meet people who inspire me. I'm not sure what I want to pursue for a career, and I have no expectations from this trip, but I hope that I will at least get a better idea of where I can make a positive difference and see where my creativity and open mind takes me.

  • Que habilidades tienes?

I’d say I bring a really good mix of practical skills, creativity, and being easy to live and work with. I enjoy anything hands-on, especially painting, basic DIY, and renovation-style work. I’ve helped renovate two homes, doing a lot of the labour and material sourcing myself, so I’m familiar with things like painting, tiling, grouting, and some basic carpentry. I also enjoy creative work like drawing and painting, and would love to get involved in any artistic projects.

I’ve worked a lot in hospitality as a bartender and waiter, as well as at bars and festivals, so I’m used to fast-paced environments, working in teams, and helping guests feel comfortable. I’ve also worked in a factory role, which built my work ethic and resilience, and have some experience in marketing for a local gym, as well as a short placement in financial services, so I’m comfortable adapting to different types of work environments. I also have experience in childcare, both in admin and working directly with young people on a community project and running team-building activities, which has made me patient, responsible, and adaptable.

On a day-to-day level, I’m very clean and tidy - my mum raised me well in that sense! I’m comfortable with cooking, cleaning, and generally helping to run a household. I can cook good Indian food and have experimented with many different cuisines before, such as Jamaican and Mexican, plus I bake a pretty good Nutella banana bread. Having lived with lots of different people of all ages during university and while abroad, I’ve been told I’m a pleasant and easy person to live with, which is just as important as practical skills in my opinion.

I’m currently learning Spanish and really enjoying it, and I’ve also spent time around animals. I’ve lived with two beautiful cats, one of which was a potty-trained Bengal whom I miss dearly, and have helped look after my best friend’s dog, so I’m happy around pets and glad to help out with them when needed. I also spent 6 weeks training at a Muay Thai camp, which really helped build my discipline and resilience.

I’m also a quick learner and happy to get stuck into anything new. Even if I haven’t done something before, I’ll give it a go and pick it up as I go along.
