I have been staying with Nadina, her family and Miquel Àngel for about one and a half months. It was also my first time travelling for a longer time/ using Workaway and it was the best thing that could have happened to me!
(I am definitely spoiled now :))
While I was staying I had my own room + bathroom which was pure luxury. The house and in
… read more general the whole property is absolutely beautiful! You can really see how much everyone, that lives here cares for it and how much hours of work they are putting into it, making sure it stays as amazing as it is now. On top of that it is really big so in case you just need some space for yourself, you will easily be able to find it. Not to forget mentioning waking up every morning and hearing the birds in the garden singing. Maybe even Petita will come by the terrace to see if you’re up ;)
In general not only the property the whole surrounding area is stunning! You can walk (maybe even accompanied by the dogs) for a long time and you won’t meet a lot of people.
If you do though, I will guarantee you that everyone will be super friendly. That is something, that applies to not only their neighbors but honestly to everyone I have met on the island so far!
Even though the property is situated in this beautiful landscape, I had no problems discovering the island. Either you’ll get the chance to tag along when Nadina and Miquel Àngel are going somewhere (one of my absolute favorite memories is the car ride to the north, which is absolutely stunning, to watch a race) or you can use the scooter to go basically everywhere you’d like to. (It’s extremely fun!) Unfortunately the scooter had to get reparations the second week I got there, but I was still able to explore a lot of places going by bus! There aren’t a lot of limits and for example Nadina and Miquel Àngel often offered to bring me to the bus station.
When you will stay here, not only will you share this house with Nadina, her family and Miquel Àngel but also with three of the cutest dogs (Petita, Venus and Blues that I all still miss dearly!), the horses and the pony. All of them are super sweet, sometimes a bit crazy, but most of all well behaved and really, really well cared for. You definitely won’t have to worry about that before coming here, these animals have the possibly best life anyone could dream of. They’re super healthy, have lots of space and most importantly are loved!
As of the work you should be aware that it definitely is physically demanding. While I was there we did a lot of things: cutting/ burning the branches, cleaning the horses stables, remove the rocks from the fields, destroying walls and fences, cleaning out the tools room etc...
There was never a dull moment and I always had my fair share of fresh air :)
Nevertheless working with these two was always fun! Plus the “agrofit” as Miquel Àngel called it really prepared me for every job that might come after I left.
Even when the work is hard, Nadina and Miquel Àngel will always try to leave the easier tasks for you or at least work just as hard as you do. It really feels more like teamwork than “working for them”, which is also why I have always enjoyed working here. Also they will probably pay more attention, that you won’t work longer than the agreed five hours than yourself. And though we met in super stressful times with a lot of work to do (both on the farm and regarding their jobs) they made sure to never let me feel that stress, which I greatly appreciated.
The whole family was super sweet, incredibly kind and hospitable.
At the time my Spanish was super bad and communicating with Francisca and Maria was a bit complicated sometimes, but nevertheless they always had a smile for me and made sure I was comfortable. Like everyone else there, they made me feel like I belonged there and was a part of the family. Also Franciscas meals were incredible! (I fell in love with the chocolate cake especially!:))
All of that does also apply to the family of Miquel Àngel, who are super kind whenever we went there and had meals together!
What’s to add is that I am vegetarian and that, that was never difficult to maintain for me while staying here.
With Nadina and Miquel Àngel I feel like I gained the best friends anyone could ask for while travelling.
I felt welcome and safe from the very first minute. They are super accepting, empathetic people that leave you a lot of space to just be, while also being super caring and funny and just genuinely awesome people.
(I could go on for days and list more things!)
Plus both of them speak English really well and have a lot of interesting stories to tell!
And if there is a problem, these two will solve it, they are a force to be reckoned with!
They also really made an effort to make sure I was doing okay all the time, especially worrying if I might feel stuck or lonely.
Moreover I felt like they genuinely wanted to get to know me and show me all the places this beautiful island has to offer.
I spent Christmas and New Years Eve in Mallorca and even though it was different than being home, it was still well spent thanks to them. (I don’t think I have ever seen someone being so creative with hiding gifts ;))
Together we went to Barcelona, visited Deià and the north of the island, went to the most magical beach of all times, found the space I want to get married someday ;) and so much more.
Each one of these places are more beautiful than the other and I am so grateful that I got to see them and spend the time there together with these two!
But even more than all of that I will miss all the normal stuff we did together! Long talks at dinner, dancing in the kitchen, taking down walls ;), going for walks with the dogs, playing shitty games aka everything that’s not chess.. Everything!
Most of all they encouraged me to try out different things, to do some activities on my own and to meet other people. With their support I started to learn so much about myself, about what I want and what I don’t want and how I want to do it. I feel like these words can’t quite describe, how much of an impact that had on me.
Simply said they helped me grow as a person. In every sense, professionally and personally and for that they will always, always have a place in my heart.
I will (and already am missing) my friends, who are not afraid to call me out on my bullshit (or my shitty Workaway profile), who have a crazy load of energy and determination, that I am 100% sure that whatever they will set their mind to they will make it happen, who know what they believe in and are nevertheless always open to learning something new instead of being set in their ways, who have hidden talents that still amaze me, who can manage to find something funny in every situation, who are neither afraid to be vulnerable nor to support you when you are and who are incredibly strong both in their own way.
I feel like no matter how hard I try to describe how beautiful this place is and more importantly how generous and welcoming and funny Nadina and Miquel Àngel are, I will not be able to get close to reality.
So in conclusion, if you ever get the chance to go there dont miss out! I can honestly say, you will not regret it!
I feel like I found a second home here in Mallorca and I couldn’t be more thankful for that❤️❤️ Already looking forward to coming back or maybe even make you come to Germany! ;)
