Hi!
My name is Lara and I live in a small town in the Black Forest, Germany.
I am 19 years old and right now I am taking a gap year after I graduated. I am looking forward to seeing more of this beautiful planet by traveling a little bit!

I love children and after my gap year I am going to study to become anschool teacher. I am also very passionate about sports and one of my dearest hobbies is track and field. Besides that I also like reading books, meeting my friends and listening to music. I enjoy taking a walk with my dog in the park or in the forest. I really love animals.
I would consider myself to be a very positive person and I love everything life has to offer! I would describe myself as easy going but also very reliable. I am a grounded girl who is eager to learn new things!
I love meeting new people and Workaway seems like a great opportunity to do so!
I am really excited to take on this journey, because Workaway is a completely new experience for me and I love to experience new things!

I always loved children and I have been earning a little bit of cash by tutoring and helping students with their homework, especially in French and English. I have been a coach in track and field for children from the ages of 10 to 14 for almost three years now. It‘s really fun and I enjoy it very much. I also did a lot of babysitting in the past. So in general I would say I have a lot of experience with toddlers and children :).
I am also experienced with animal care because I have a dog and a cat.
I am able to do housework like cleaning, doing laundry etc. I already do that at home so that wouldn’t be something new for me.

  I am a vegetarian and I am very interested in the vegan cuisine, but I don’t mind you eating meat or also preparing food with meat. I am also able to cook my own meals. I don’t want to be a burden!

I stayed with Terri and the kids from November to April and then came back at the end of June for about 2,5 months because I liked it so much!
Terri is such a great person and we did so many fun things together. Our most recent adventure was our camping trip to Saltspring Island but there are so many more moments I will never forget (Tofino Trip,… read more the Filberg Festival, snow tubing on Mount Washington,…). Terri makes sure that you feel part of the family and you are included in all the family activities. She is also very flexible and I had lots of time to explore on my own. I had the opportunity to go to the Rockies for a few days and I explored a lot of Vancouver Island in my free time as well. I learned so much about life from Terri. She’s a really good cook and I am still dreaming about the chocolate chip cookies ;). I‘ll definitely bake them at home! And she makes the best smoothies as well. Terri is an amazing mum and I really admire her.
Frida is the cutest dog ever and I will miss her so much! She loves to cuddle and is just so good.
And the kids are adorable as well. I will miss playing card and board games with Ewan, doing puzzles and art work with Cadence, and in general just playing and spending time with them. Ewan is the funniest little guy ever and Cadence is such a sweetheart.
We also spent a lot of time on Terri‘s mum‘s farm near Coombs which I enjoyed a lot! I learned so many things about farm life there. Terri’s mum also has workawayers there which was super nice. The property is amazing and in the summer time we would go swimming in the private pond.
The work at Terri’s was enjoyable and not too hard. I helped with the kids (playing with them, taking them to the playground, minigolfing, sometimes helped Cadence with her reading …) and when she was getting them ready for bed I would do the dishes and clean up the kitchen.
Sometimes I did some general tidying and cleaning around the house or some gardening in the warmer months and take Frida on walks when she was working. I enjoyed helping in Terri’s clothing store as well and liked or little photo shoots for the store‘s Instagram.
Vancouver Island is such a beautiful place and I will miss it so much! Especially all the people I got to meet <3
But I will definitely come back to visit!!
