Hello! We are Rik (31) and Marieke (34), a couple from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Rik is from a small village and Marieke has been living in the city for all her life.

We both have a positive attitude, are hands on, share our love for nature, cooking, are curious about how “things” work and people in general. We like to make contact, learn and share with others.

We realise that by the way we are living our lives, the time flies by and we find it hard to relax and slow down. The spaces we have between working, living and nature feel more and more strange to us. We have been fantasising about other possible ways of living, and would like to explore, learn and be inspired by how others live their live in a different way, more connected to nature.

About Marieke: Hi, I am Marieke. I am kind and caring. I like hard work and sometimes find it hard to sit still. I am an art teacher at a primary school and enjoy teaching kids a lot. Besides that I love to design and draw, I always carry a sketchbook with me! My dad grew up on a farm, and since I was a kid I learned a lot from him about plants and crops. I like recognizing plants and currently I am taking care of our garden and sometimes help out at the communal garden near our house.

I live in the city but I am fortunate enough to have a garden. I realise that this is the place where I like spending my time most. But the everyday city live can keep me away from it, often I am busy in my head and at the end of the day I don’t always feel fulfilled. How would it be to have a bit more land, be surrounded with it more? I Am curious to experience how it will feel to work with the ground and vegetables day in day out. Will I miss the city?

About Rik: I am a positive minded practical person that likes to laugh, be outside, and help others. I am educated as a mechanical engineer, worked as one but also have been working as a jobcoach and a workshop supervisor. At the moment I am working as a Carpenter mainly focussing on building with re-used materials. Re-using, repairing and making things are some of my passions, besides that I love to play guitar and climbing.

With Workaway I want to experience living and working on a farm without all the impulses, rush and bricks that I encounter in everyday work and city life. I am eager to be surrounded by nature and learn more about it. In the past I have done several workaways which I always found very enjoyable. I also hope to meet other people to learn from!
