  • Descripción

    Kia ora, whanau!
My name is Kip and I'm a queer psychology postgraduate student taking a break from university and get amongst it before starting my masters in counselling.
Currently, I'm a kindergarten teacher aide, but in the past I've worked as a queer representative on a charity board, coached disabled horse-riding, worked on kiwifruit orchards, in wedding catering, gardening, mental health peer support and in retail. I'm so excited to start my Workaway experiences, and I'm looking forward to learn more skills, learn more about life and people and their cultures, and add more experiences to my very confused CV.

  • Que habilidades tienes?

In terms of my education, I have a Bachelors of Science with Honours in psychology and neuroscience. Regarding skills, I can dissect a mouse brain in various ways, but I think more importantly, my degree drilled organization and multi-tasking, and various computer skills very much into my head.

Professionally, I have been in very people oriented roles. The skills I have learned from teaching kindergarten, coaching, working in customer service, and in peer support, have all centered around connection and communication- skills such as listening, being able to learn from others and teach them too, being adaptable to different people, different situations and what they need.

My work history also has a list of more specific skills attached with it: catering and cleaning for over 100 guests, training, pruning and thinning kiwifruit vines, maintenance of gardens of various sizes, writing policies and delivering training workshops, supporting people affected by suicide, running a shop, planning and teaching lessons to target a child's specific riding goals, caring for eleven horses, and most recently, infant care and how to keep 20 four-year-olds engaged for more than two minutes.

Personally, I'm pretty well-versed in art skills. I specialize in paint or pencil mediums, but I also dabble in ink and fiber art (I love embroidery, knitting and crocheting), and I'm learning how to throw pottery!

On my days off I love going for hikes (bonus points if there are dogs), painting, knitting (currently learning to crochet), and gardening. I'm also a pretty keen cook and I love to try new foods too.
