Greetings Friends,

I consider myself to be a simple living, consciously expansive, and down to earth person seeking new expirences at this stage in my life as a young woman.

My goals for this year include; spending much of, if not all my time outdoors, meeting new people/ learning their culture, and giving back to communities. Service work is something I have been drawn to these past few months, so anything you are in need of, sign me up!

For the last 5 years I have resided in Utah, which has been nothing short of spectacular. With that said, I feel like it is time to go and explore! I am ready to spread my wings and find other spunky, dirt-loving, compassionate individuals who can teach me what they have learned thus far. I am currently searching for opportunities that can teach me about homesteading, farming, or any self-reliance style of living. With that said, I am always open to any experience, but my focus for this year is sustainable living.

I have a deep passion for the Deaf community (I am fluent in ASL and am an interpreter), gardening, and conscious living. I spend my days moving my body intuitively, eating foods that our earth has provided for us, and giving back to others.

I am an avid trail runner, hiker and recently got back into yoga after a knee injury. Aligning myself through meditation and moment to moment awareness keeps me centered throughout life’s chaos! I can be seen dancing around to ABBA, Grateful Dead, Wings, or J.J. Cale, (just to name a few!) as music is a huge part of my self expression. I love to make crafts out of sustainable materials, throw a frisbee after a long day, and enjoy a good sunset with a cup of tea.

Although I am a new member of Workaway and have limited exposure to this resource, I am eager to dive into a beautifully conscious community here. I am grateful to be a part of this service circle and hope to chat with you soon!

I have experience working in a small scale organic gardens; harvesting, prepping beds, tilling, watering, planting etc. Related to homesteading skills, I can use a chainsaw, cut firewood, haul wheelbarrows, clear out areas of land, burn brush piles, prep and properly can food, maintain compost piles, seed saving and propagation. I also have basic first aid skills, and hope to soon enroll in a WFR course (Wilderness First Responder).

I am a very organized person and take pride in my work ethic. I am a natural born leader and take that role if need be, but also find comfort in group work and following directions from other, more experienced workers. I have worked in the food industry for over 6 years and love cooking up organic meals at home. I have also worked as an RBT (registered behavior technician) working with children on the autism spectrum, alongside other jobs in the mental health field. I am fluent in both English and American Sign Language.

I love a good card game (grew up playing rummy and euchre), classic rock/live music, and dancing! I also belong to a Buddhist lineage and am open to all religions!

Jori was a fantastic help at our off grid homestead. She has a can do attitude, is intelligent, loves learning new skills but also has no problem joyfully taking on more mundane tasks. My goodness! My stay with Halle was the most nurturing and peaceful time. I stayed for a short two week period that I wish I could have extended. Upon arriving to the property Halle greeted me with a warm hug and wonderful hospitality.

Halle and her husband Mike live in the main house, while their grown daughter and partner live on the property … read more right behind. It was nice to have a mix of people to interact with throughout my stay and I mostly found myself working with Bing (daughter's partner). I stayed over Memorial Day weekend, which for Pottery Valley is a big deal! We went to the local rodeo and watched a cute parade that went down the main street. I always felt very included in the daily routine and communication was never murky.

Halle has lived on this property for nearly 40 years and is very well educated about it's history. She was kind enough to drive me around the town and point out the best spots to visit in my free time.

The work itself was varied, nothing demanding or strictly required. I tend to be a busy bee myself so there were endless small tasks to help with. From cleaning the kitchen and doing dishes to pulling overgrown blackberries, it wasn't difficult to stay busy. (I recommend this place if you are confident in self-starting tasks and household dynamics. Both Halle and Mike are in their 80's and sometimes life can look different than someone's routine in their 20-30's.)

One of my favorite memories would be our nightly walks that Halle and I would take up the road in the evenings. They live on this beautiful road that cuts back into the hills and is very private. Often you can see elk as well as rolling vineyard fields. Halle is such an inspirational woman who is tough as nails and so strong! She has a tender motherly side to her that often comes out with home-cooked, culturally-expansive meals every night.

Halle provided a spacious guest room on the main floor with my own private bathroom (included with a shower!). Privacy was easily found here and it never felt too crowed. There are two pups with big personalities which I enjoyed getting to know, as well as a sweet outdoor cat.

Mike (Halle's husband) lives at the house full time but lives a different lifestyle. After a stroke a few years back he is still in rehabilitation mode trying to get his independence. There was a caretaker that would come daily who was very kind and fun to chat with while she was there. If smoke of any kind is an issue for you, I would mention that to Halle when you chat!

I would highly recommend this location if it is your first Workaway and you are wanting a simple space to land. Halle will take great care of you!
