Hallochen, workaway host!
You a looking at a profile of Marina and Dmitrii, enthusiastic couple from Europe, eager to travel the world together as it is finally time to proceed with making our long shelved dream come true. We are currently living in Switzerland in a shared house, with 5 other wonderful human beings. We try to maintain ecological lifestyle, consuming bio products to the possible extent. We are two sporty lads, that is how we actually met each other, so, sport connecting people, not Nokia.
Marina:
I had workaway experience in my early 20s, I traveled to Ireland and worked in Youth hostel as housekeeper. Somewhere up in the Wicklow mountains, I experienced collaboration with other workawayers and enjoyed having a lot in common so easily and effortlessly with people I haven't met before. In other words, workaway infected me.
It was always clear for me that I wanna proceed towards traveling like this compared to a conventional tourism, ticking the famous spots on a map (or Foursquare accounts) is not my cup of tea. I am looking forward to learning new languages, cooking unusual kind of dishes and expose my immune system to previously unknown mosquitos. I am working in laboratories, that is why so many references with immunology.
Dmitrii:
Since I experienced my first ever trip abroad till today I had been thinking what is it like to live on the road and be open for adventures every next day of life and not waking up to a routine job obligation. A year for myself, I call it.
That year, I do what I want and not what civilization dictates. And what is it that I want? What I want is to speak more languages, learn new ways of life ,experience the cultural shock and to see the brand new world.
To be honest, I have seen a bit of it. I have traveled mostly in Europe and in Asia. For work I visited Brazil two times and that turned out to be the seed of my future love to South American continent, and that seed has turning into a tree big enough for me to give up the office work and start an adventure.Intereses

Que habilidades tienes?
We can be helpful in variety of tasks, from gardening to building plywood production lines, so we would like to tell separately about our skillset below.
Dmitrii:
My profession is automation engineer, in practice I am making soulless robots/equipment/production lines alive. Something doesn't work right? My job is to understand if it is software or hardware and fix it. I am more focused on software part, but in a job like mine, being able to bridge wires, measure the current, find a loose wire is a must. So that is my field of expertise.
In my pre-engineering life, I used to do carpentry work at concrete elements factory (assembling per-built house elements like walls, balconies, floors and so on). I also used to be an electrician, tour guide, newspaper deliverer, mascot costume promoter, secretary (answering calls for extremely busy office big bosses) and my very first real job ever was a babysitter, taking care of my numerous siblings and neighbor kids - never lost a single child.
I worked variety of jobs during my life, so there is no work, that a human being can adapt to.
Marina:
I am one heck of a laboratory technician, not a single virus escaped from my supervision. My background is in hospital laboratory, where I tested different types of samples for even more various types of parameters. Since a while I am working in microbiology research where I figure out different techniques to kill microorganisms. My enthusiasm to this topic even brought me into teaching. I conduct lessons in virology at hospital school. Besides my obsession with microorganisms, I love to cook. With and without recipes. With wine, not without.
I like all kind of assembling jobs, making furniture, shelves, repairing dishwashers, incubators, bioreactors and other things. I also have a big heart for plants, the shared house we wrote about in the introduction is full of plants (our green family members who pay rent with a bit of oxygen).
To sum up, together we can be helpful with this set of skills:
- Help with computers (hardware/software)
- Carpentry
- Electric works (as long as local regulations comply)
- English, Russian, Finnish, German language exchange
- Home repair
- We can use power tools
- Build staff
- Haircutting
- Entertain on rainy evening with Russian and Swiss stories.
And I would be willing to exchange these skills for a warm welcome and participation of your project!Edad

Algo más...
Board games is life. I can play backgammon all day without any regret. Some years ago, that was the biggest relief and biggest hobby. Munchkin, zombie kittens, unearth, ticket to ride, saboteur. Have lots of interesting games to play and not only. In fact, we bring with us a set of mini table games,so we can teach some overseas board games and enjoy together. Besides board games, we know lots of card games, campfire stories where the rest needs to guess the ending, we love to play charades or just simply chatting is always an option.
Swimming is another activity we would love to do a lot during our trip. In lakes, rivers, oceans, pools everywhere except the lakes where that worm who seeks a new home in people.
We are also hikers, so if there is unconcerned mountain in our vicinity, we are tying our laces and ready to move.
Marina is ombidexter and Dmitrii speaks non-existing language called Tarabarskiy.Más información
