Descripción

I'm Dave, I'm 29 years old from Derby in the UK. I'm travelling for a year or two, starting in April 2023 and I'm currently seeking to book in Workaways from June 2024 onwards. I have a university degree in English and History and have spent the past 3 years running a restaurant and bar. I have now closed the business and am looking to explore more of the world and immerse myself in new cultures and lifestyles.

I have lots of experience, particularly in schools and in permaculture settings, and have been volunteering since the age of 15. I did my first Workaway in 2017 and had a great experience in India teaching at an English language school. Since then, I have worked on an organic olive grove in Sicily, a language school in Morocco, the Permaculture Institute of Romania, house-sitting in Portugal, and many more.

I believe in equality, fairness, and respect for nature and all of nature's beings. I am at the stage in my life where I would love to learn and expand my knowledge as much as I can. I have many passions and hobbies including hiking, foraging, reading, gardening and cooking (I'm vegetarian and I'm happy to cook for myself and others). I love the outdoors and nature, and thrive when I am in these types of surroundings.

I currently work a few hours a week on my laptop as an English tutor. This has never disrupted my Workaway experiences as it is only three evenings a week.

Que habilidades tienes?

I am a native English speaker and I set up and was the director of an award-winning restaurant from 2019 to 2023. Over these years I have gained plenty of experience in managing staff, admin associated with running a business, working within a team, marketing online (including social media), customer service, cooking delicious plant-based food, mixology, flavour-pairing and more.

I've run successful social media marketing campaigns for my business and became the most-followed independent restaurant in my city on Instagram within 2 years of opening. I am good with technology and am able to use a number of computer programs including Office apps and Adobe Photoshop proficiently.

I am also a nature-lover; I have experience volunteering for permaculture food growing projects, as well as growing my own fruit and vegetables for a few years. I have a keen interest in mushrooms and plants as well as wild food foraging. I like to give back to nature for what nature provides me.

I have past volunteering experience in schools (teaching English to both children and adults), summer camps for young people, community gardening projects, farms, and more. I have paid work experience in teaching English, gardening and hospitality.
