Hi! I’m Andrew, a recent university graduate from Kentucky, USA. I’m naturally curious and always excited to try something new, whether that means exploring an unfamiliar place, learning a skill, or taking on a challenging project. I’m a very social person at heart and I genuinely enjoy getting to know people and hearing their stories.

Growing up in Kentucky gave me a strong appreciation for animals and nature. I have two dogs and a hedgehog at home, and I’ve spent plenty of time around horses. Some of my happiest memories are of the outdoors, such as when I'm hiking, riding my bike, taking photographs, or just enjoying the nature around my hometown. I also love cooking, reading, building things, and puzzles.

I’m traveling solo across Europe and Africa through a postgraduate fellowship, learning how prosthetics shape people’s everyday lives. It’s a project rooted in listening to people’s stories, which is also what drew me to Workaway. I’d love to get involved in daily life and get to know the people and places I visit. I’m excited to learn from my hosts, share a little of my own background, and build friendships along the way.

Que habilidades tienes?

I’ve spent several years working at residential summer camps, leading activities and caring for groups of children and teenagers. I enjoy helping people feel welcome, included, and confident trying something new. Through this work, I’ve learned to lead groups, support my teammates, handle disagreements, and adapt when plans change. I’ve also mentored students and helped organize university orientation programs, workshops, and other events.

I am an avid photographer (you can see my work at andrew-blakemore.com/photography) and videographer. I have a photography Instagram page where I regularly post my photos. I’ve produced videos for YouTube, written blog posts, and designed my own website and online portfolio. I would be glad to help a host take photos, create videos or a website, write about their projects, or improve their online presence.

I’m comfortable working with all kinds of tools, troubleshooting computer & technology problems, and figuring out how things work. I have experience diagnosing, repairing, calibrating, and maintaining medical equipment, as well as building prototypes through CAD, 3D printing, and digital fabrication. I enjoy projects where I can fix or improve something.

I’m comfortable helping with all kinds of everyday tasks. I’ve gardened and cared for many kinds of animals. I have plenty of experience with making small-batch preserves!

I’m a big Kentucky basketball fan and love playing sports. I also enjoy playing social and strategy games, especially Codenames, Uno, chess, and Catan. Recently, I’ve been trying to learn card tricks and read more mystery novels.
