Hi, my name is Theo and i'm 28 turning 29 in July and i was born in Winchester which is the south coast area of England. I moved up to North Yorkshire in the North of England when i was 16 in 2011 to be closer to family. I'm very passionate and know alot about sustainability, ecology and nature all round, having a UK science degree in Animal Conservation AKA a BSc (Bachelor of Science). I'm low level autisic but its a superpower in so many more ways than calling it a disability. I was diagnosed with ASD when i was 13 which explained a lot of things that i was doing at school like struggling to maintain concentration, bad listening skills and reacting badly to things that no one else even took notice of. To sum my autism vs education battle up in short, i was told by my maths teacher at 12 years old in front of both my parents "Theo doesn't have the academic ability to go to university" in 2007. 15 years later i was stepping onto the stage in York Minster in front of 200 people receiving my BSc in Animal Conservation. This was something i used to share with the kids at Bushcraft a lot for the moral of "It doesn't matter what teachers say about you being trouble in the classroom every day they're teaching a class with you in it or if they tell you you're not 'cut out' for something you've expressed openly you want to achieve, you've got the time to prove them wrong" I said that because that's how i was viewed at school, labeled as a bad kid in my first year there expected to misbehave or not listen but i proved them wrong 15 years after hearing it said to me. So if i can prove that teacher wrong by putting blood, sweat and tears into achieving a BSc in Animal Conservation at the age of 27 considering my English and Maths skills at the age of 13 were the same as when i was 10 i had a long road to the top over the next 15 years. Eventually after years of bad health with my nocturnal epilepsy which had me on a ventilator in the Hull hospital ICU for at least 8hrs at it's worst and then being overweight i went on to lose 6 stone and go from 20st 1lb on day one weigh in to 13st 13lb, i then was awarded my 6 stone award which felt awesome. What i did next though was even more because i immediately after being back to 100% went back to re-take my final year, which I'd been forced away from the first time because of seizures starting to happen. After 3 years out of university level work i worked harder than anyone and passed the course without failing a single module. I'm very proud of myself for manging to turn it all around so quickly but more than anything i showed i can take on even the most challenging of tasks and succeed. I want to use this for the benefit of everyone at the project because i love either or both teaching and exchanging knowledge.
Last summer i moved down to Oxford, England to work as a bush crafter. I worked for The Bushcraft Company May until October 2023. My role/ job was called a 'Tribe Leader' to teach and lead my group of school children that came for residential trips the basics of both bushcraft and survival skills. This included building shelters between trees using only ropes, paracord, tent pegs and a large tarpaulin. I also led the children in carving basic tent pegs with fixed blade 'Mora' knives which was stressful but that job as a whole was filled with stress and long hours being around and looking after up to 70 children on just a single camp. I did however never complain about the serious workload because i simply enjoyed the job so much and that love for the job carried me through the whole season. I'm dedicated to being as good as i can possibly be in anything new i do and i plan on showing that. I learned and or uncovered things about living the bushcraft lifestyle by living in my air tent for the whole season in the woods. I am very connected with nature because of that and try to keep up contact with the wild as much as i can. So taking this step forward into the wild of Colorado is a chance for me to just see a different kind of wild.
I want to join you in Salida, Colorado because out of all the states in the US I've always said I'd like to visit Colorado first and your project sounds as ideal a prospect to live and work for free in a beautiful place in the world as i could think of there being. In everything you've shared that you do, building with hempcrete is something i really want to know and learn more about but in a practical way. I have great social skills and have worked in UK agriculture, conservation, retail, hospitality so my skill set is as i see it well rounded. I'm a pretty good cook as well. I'm very keen to come over and join the project and help out others with my existing knowledge of sustainability but I'm just as enthusiastic to learn new skills alongside everyone that i can use later in life for myself.Intereses

My main skill set is based on countryside management, farming and eco science. I learned these skills in Yorkshire, England and the countryside there is the best in England to many who live Learning the basics of woodland management, livestock hill farms, diary milking work with sheep, cows and goats, horticulture in Yorkshire is the perfect environment for these practical skills due to the terrain, nature and large farming communities. I always want to do what's new and challenging and the skills i have picked up in at least the last 13 years i think will be very useful and I'll be happy to share my knowledge of UK farming, conservation and horticulture with you and other workawayers who maybe haven't been to the UK and seen what the agricultural practices are there. I can bring that information to share and anything and everything else i know that is or could be of interest to people who are exchanging their knowledge of how the same things are done in their country.
My friends are always referring to me as the nature guy. It's a mix of education in conservation and a life long interest and passion in the natural world away from big cities. I'm very adaptable to anything changing because I've had maybe too much practice and experience in major life changes. I'm experienced in working and living outdoors so the weather doesn't ever bother me, i just carry on doing the hard work because that's the Yorkshire working moto, no matter how hard things are (weather conditions, physical fatigue or even your own mood on the day) you get the job done. That's what i can provide to you and everybody else, i work as hard as i can, work for as long I'm asked to, i have a great working attitude and don't ever complain because when everyone's doing the same hard job no one wants there to be that one person who's standing around complaining about whatever. If everyone has the same purpose, then everyone works hard to achieve the shared goal. That's my working attitude.Edad
