Hi! We’re Monika and Ian, a friendly couple currently living Scotland, excited to travel, meet new people, learn new skills and share our skills through Workaway. We’ve done several Workaways together, including insulating a house with clay, helping with dog care, and doing a range of practical tasks in the jungle. We're adaptable, enthusiastic, and happy to get involved with a wide variety of tasks (animal care, child care, teaching English, working in hostels/hotels, cooking, gardening, cleaning, building work etc).
We've recently started scuba diving and are excited to explore the ocean while we travel through South America. We also love hiking, exploring nature and new towns/cities and are very excited to start out travels!
Monika:
I’m 26, originally from Lithuania, and have been living, working, and studying in the UK for the past 6 years. I’m currently training to become a Gestalt psychotherapist, though I’ve taken a year out to travel and explore new ways of living.
I’ve spent a lot of time in nature throughout my life - it’s where I feel most at home. I’d love to live off-grid and be more self-sufficient, so I’m always keen to learn practical skills from others with experience.
Animals have also been a big part of my life. I’ve spent many years around horses, dogs, and cats, and I have also lived in a farm animal sanctuary caring for goats, sheep, cows, chickens, and pigs. I love animals very much and enjoy helping out with their care.
I love music - I sing, play piano, and play a tiny bit of guitar and djembe. I’d be happy to share some basic singing or piano lessons during our stay. I also love cooking plant-based meals, and have worked in vegan restaurants in the past.
My work background includes supporting disabled people and, more recently, working with people experiencing homelessness in Edinburgh. I also volunteered with the Samaritans for a couple of years, offering emotional support to people in crisis. I’m reliable, down-to-earth, and love to laugh. I’ve done Workaway in various places before and really value the community spirit it creates.
I speak fluent English and would also be happy to help teach English or do language exchange. Would also be happy to help with childcare.
Ian:
I’m 40 and originally from Scotland. I’m a passionate musician, I play guitar in a variety of styles including reggae, funk, rock and metal, and I’d be happy to offer guitar lessons or jam sessions while we’re around.
I’ve worked extensively in hospitality (hotels, bars) and have managed a hotel in the past. I also have a lot of experience with dog care. I could also help out with childcare. I’m a creative, thoughtful person who enjoys humour, deep conversations and finding meaning in everyday life.
I’m quite good with computers and quite competent with most electronics, so I’m happy to help with IT tasks, troubleshooting or digital setup if needed.
In the past, I helped organise events for a psychedelic society in Scotland, bringing together speakers and facilitators to help educate people in the Edinburgh about the healing potential of psychedelic medicine. Both Monika and I share a strong interest in psychology, personal growth and the transformative power of plant medicines.
I speak perfect English and would be glad to help with language exchange or teaching.
Due to an old sports injury in my wrists, I will need to avoid work that involves intensive lifting or take occasional breaks from physical work if any pain flares up, but I always stay engaged and contribute in whatever way I can.Intereses
