I'm currently living outside La Paz BCS Mexico.

  • Descripción

Hi! I'm currently housesitting in Comitan, Mexico, which is right outside of La Paz in the state of Baja California Sur.

In 2019 I became location independent! I'm mostly an introvert; I don't smoke or drink or use any kind of drug though I don't care what you do as long as I don't have to smell it. I've spent 14 years in the same town in central Missouri, United States. I decided that instead of spending the rest of my time in my safe and comfortable life I'd make some changes. In the previous years I haven't really gotten outside my bubble to travel or meet new friends and I want to change that. I want to challenge myself to meet new people and try new experiences and travel to more places. I support people of color and all genders and sexual orientations.

After traveling across the US from Missouri to California during 2019 I settled in Mexico, before returning to the US during Covid lockdown in 2020. I spent a year in Colorado homeschooling 3 kids and providing dinner for the family. Taking the kids from being terrified of the outdoors to being stronger hikers than me was an amazing experience. Teaching the 9 and 11 year olds was fun. I did not enjoy teaching the 6 year old as much except in reading and hiking. Broadening their food experiences and teaching them that new things should be tried instead of reviled was rewarding, but also very challenging!

I moved to La Paz in 2021. I spent the summer doing a number of petsits before moving into a large house in Comitan to housesit for the forseable future.

I'm heading to Cozumel for winter 2023-2024. I plan to be back in La Paz by June 2024. No plans after that yet.

Hit me up if you think we'd make a good fit!

I'm a bookkeeper/payroll specialist/personal and small business tax accountant by trade. I'll be taking my business with me as remote work which I mostly prefer to do in the early mornings rarely exceeding 3 hours a day, but I have a lot of skills that mostly don't relate to that.
I have had food gardens, fruit trees ( I think I've finally learned how to trim them to do what I want), a rain garden to catch and contain roof runoff before it washes into the sewer system, and native (Missouri, United States) plant gardens. I've moved tons and tons (I literally mean thousands and thousands of pounds) of soil/compost/mulch via shovel/spud fork/wheel barrow over the years.
I've raised egg and meat chickens (I've processed a few hundred and taught classes to urban hen keepers), pigs, turkeys, cats and dogs. I've been a beekeeper for about 4 years so I still have a lot to learn, but also have some decent experience. I have some time working with horses and goats, but I'm far from experienced in either. I'm great at doing the cutting in (aka trim work with a brush) on walls/doors/windows/ceilings when painting and I can roll a wall, but I don't find it rewarding the way I do the brush work. I worked construction for a few years when I was younger, but most of that was concrete and surveying work so it's not going to apply to most homes, but I can replace outlets/lights/fans, do some basic rewiring, swing a hammer or use a drill/saw. And I can be a great helper to anyone who wants to lead a construction project. I am very good at cleaning and organizing. I can mow a lawn, but I'd rather clean an oven or toilet or roll 500 coins than do it. I love doing laundry and hanging out the clothes. Grocery shopping makes me happy. I can cook a few things very well, but it's not really my forte. I generally enjoy helping in the prep of cooking and doing it for other people. I used to be a pretty good baker.
I'm probably forgetting some of the things I do because I just do them and don't think of it as my skills as all that useful even though experience has taught me most people find them to be!

  • Algo más...

I love pretty much all card games and really good board games like Dominion, Azul, 7 Wonders. I love to knit, read, garden, hike, bike, and help on pretty much all projects including preparing meals together. I'm rarely interested in being in the same space as electronic sounds be it radios, tvs, or amps/speakers; I'll put up with them, but almost never seek one out though occasionally I'll watch a show and knit. I enjoy doing things and then taking a break. Vacations are hard for me because it's too much aimlessness too many days in a row.
I hate anything that tastes like licorice, I'm not all that fond of kale or cooked spinach. I'll tolerate a bit of ginger, but not if I bite into a piece (it tastes like chemicals to me). I can eat omnivorous or vegetarian. Or even vegan if I have to though I'd prefer to not go without dairy products for long.
I have to be in one place for tax season which for me means being settled by Boxing day (aka Dec 26th) though the middle of Apr, so I'll only be traveling outside of that.
I like to have direction, but after that am capable of working on my own and completing tasks. I'm good at managing my time and working when work needs to be done. I don't consider myself a hard worker, but a steady one; others don't agree and think I am a hard worker, but for me it's more just get it done not kill yourself to complete it in less time. For me it's all about the journey and the destination is sometimes a 2nd reward. Once I get an understanding of the flow I'm good at anticipating what needs to be done when, but before that a bit of direction to know what is more important is best.

respiratory: pollen, smoke, perfume, air freshener, dryer sheets, pretty much all the scented things; I can't stop breathing though I do take medications to alleviate my symptoms. My skin: pretty much every soap/cleanser on the market, but I can wear glov

    • Dieta especial
I have to limit my fat/oils intake and tend to limit my wheat & nuts as well. And like everyone I have some foods I just won't eat and some I prefer not to but will if served them.
