Hi, my name is Esperanza. I am originally from Mexico and a Canadian citizen, living in Quebec since 2009.
I am a solopreneur working in tech consulting, mainly remotely. I speak fluently English, French, and Spanish, and I have an intermediate level of German, which I’m always happy to practice and improve.

In 2024, I began embracing a more nomadic lifestyle. Since then, I’ve been open to living in different places and participating in meaningful exchanges. I am especially interested in sustainable, ecological, and community-based projects, as well as gardening, house-sitting, pet-sitting, language exchange, and outdoor initiatives.

I am also open to tech-related projects, whether paid or as part of an exchange. I can contribute to digital organization, consulting, online systems, or other tech-oriented support depending on your needs.

I am available for both short- and longer-term stays, and I enjoy dedicating myself seriously to projects where I can add value in both the short and long term.

My Connection with Nature & Animals

I feel deeply connected to nature. I am happiest outdoors — by lakes, in forests, on hiking trails, or cycling long distances. I enjoy biking (including long rides along the lake), hiking, cross-country skiing in winter, and walking in natural spaces. I practice grounding and contemplation in nature, connecting with trees, plants, flowers, the sky, and the earth.

Animals have a very special place in my heart. I feel a natural rapport with cats, birds, dogs, and most animals. Recently, I helped rescue a turtle that was crossing a highway to prevent it from being harmed — I truly see animals as important beings deserving of care and respect.

I love meeting cats during walks and cuddling them, birdwatching and listening to birdsong, which brings me instant peace. I also enjoy caring for plants and gardening and am always happy to help maintain green spaces.

My stay at Catherine’s home was a truly meaningful and memorable experience.

From the beginning, the house felt warm, welcoming, and very comfortable. It is a beautiful century home located by the river, with a peaceful atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down, reflect, and feel at home. She naturally treats people more like friends than guests, which makes the experience feel very human and genuine.

Catherine is open-minded, generous, and easy to talk to. We shared many thoughtful conversations about life, spirituality, personal journeys, and goals. We also spent time watching films and discussing a wide range of topics, and these conversations always felt natural, engaging, and meaningful. I truly felt a genuine human connection, and time together always seemed to pass very quickly. She also included us in social moments, such as going out during hockey games, watching the sunset, and spending time outside the house, which made the experience feel integrated into daily life rather than formal or transactional.

The work itself was flexible and varied, including household tasks, gardening, cleaning, and, in my case, she was interested tech-related support. This included small outdoor tasks such as picking up sticks in the garden yard and helping move items from the basement over a few days. A significant focus of the stay was also on tech-related help, where I supported her in developing an initial app prototype related to one of her projects, along with assisting on other tech questions. Given the short timeframe, the focus was on rapid exploration, brainstorming, and creating a functional starting point using AI tools and fast iteration. At the same time, Catherine has a very busy schedule, so progress naturally depended on her availability and priorities. Despite this, we were able to accomplish a meaningful amount in a short period, especially in terms of clarifying ideas and exploring future directions.

She was also very helpful in practical ways — offering rides when needed, including helping me get to a storage place as I was in a transition, and supporting small logistics during my transition. These gestures made a real difference and reflected her generous and supportive nature.

There was a small misunderstanding on the morning of arrival due to travel timing and messaging while I was on an overnight bus, which created a bit uncertain moment when I arrived. I contributed in part here as I could not check my messages during the overnight trave and could not confirm my exact arrival time. My suggestion for other workawayers to avoid this is to setup a clear arrival strategy so that misunderstandings do not happen. 🙂
However, once we met and communicated in person, everything settled naturally and the rest of the stay became very positive.

What stood out most was Catherine’s kindness and generosity. She goes beyond hosting — she genuinely supports people. I felt very welcomed and supported during an important transition period in my life.

Her home is not only comfortable, but also a space where people can feel grounded and supported. I left with more than I expected — not just experience, but also meaningful human connection.

I am very grateful for this opportunity and would happily stay in touch and return in the future. I would highly recommend this experience to others who are open to a flexible, human, and genuinely shared exchange.
