Hi! I'm Aviaja, I'm 27, currently in the midst of a degree in archaeology, but always looking to travel any time I get the opportunity.
Before I started studying I spent a year traveling Europe and doing Workaway.
I went to Portugal, Italy, Romania and Hungary, mainly doing hostel work like reception, cleaning and bartending. I've since done some workaways in Serbia, Greece and Poland as well !

When I was a kid my parents travelled a lot with me (mainly through southeast Asia; Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, etc.), though they started sticking to Europe once my two younger siblings were born. And so traveling is something I've very much grown up with and feels like a natural part of my life.

I'm a very curious and open-minded person and love learning new things. You can always find me immersed in some new topic, project or hobby I've decided to try out. I have a lot of hobbies and interests that I'd love to share, and I'm curious about most everything, so I'd love for you to share with me what you're passionate about.
I generally enjoy any creative work and I started painting a few years ago. Now I'm making something out of most everything I can get my hands on.
I also love cooking and baking and, although I have some stables I love, I'm always testing out new recipes in the kitchen - for better or worse.
To maybe sum up, I believe loving the world around you, learning and expressing yourself is a great way to go through life.

Along with my workaway experiences, I've also worked in a variety of hospitality industry jobs - as a receptionist, barista, waitress and in the kitchen of a restaurant.
Other than that I'd love to help out and swing a brush or help with various creative and/or home projects. I'm also very organized and quite systematic, so I'm good at cleaning too. I've grown up as the oldest of three siblings with a fairly big age gap, so I'm used to being around kids and babysitting. I also did horseback-riding for 11 years (taught a bit to kids too), though it's now many years ago since I've been on horseback regularly.
I'm interested in most everything and love learning, so I'm most likely going to be up for learning any new skills, regardless of whether I've had experience or interest in them before !

It's important for you to know that I am not just looking for a free bed and so, expect that you are not just looking for free labour. Workaway is, to me, about cultural exchange, learning opportunities and friendship, and so that is what I'm looking for in hosts.

Aviaja is a young student of archeology from Kopenhagen/Danmark, She stayed at my place for two weeks as this was her students short break between her semesters and I belive that if not that she would stay longer.

I stayed at Sandy's home for 1 1/2 months during the spring (though I initially only planned to stay a month) and it was easily one of my favorite workaways I’ve done.  
Sandy is such an incredible, intelligent and funny woman, and even when she was busy with work, she was always around and I had many great conversations with her.  In my time… read more there, we were between 3-5 workawayers staying there, which worked really well - both in terms of workload distribution as well as a sense of being part of a small household, always cooking together, sharing breakfast in the sun and playing cards. Friends of Sandy’s would often be around as well, helping out with various things, like a little community.  
Arni is a beautiful and isolated little village, with the nearest town only in driving distance or a couple of hours of hiking along mostly dirt tracks. It’s mountainous and full of wonderful hiking trails, small stone churches, waterfalls, beautiful views and many little secrets if you venture even just slightly off path. I loved having my morning coffee looking at the clouds rolling down the mountain and through the valley below.  
The work at the animal shelter was very routine, though it takes a few days to get the hang of it, especially the feeding as you have to remember each dog’s position, feeding order and portions.  While I was there we also painted a lot, but the work and workload varied from day to day, depending on what was needed.  
The dogs are an easily lovable and occasionally rowdy bunch, they’re all very distinct with their little quirks and often big personalities. And since you share most of the house with them, they’re always there for a hangout, whether you wanna cozy up by the fireplace or go for a walk in the big garden. It’s hard not wanting to leave with a few popped in your backback.
 Sometimes the work could be tough though, most of the dogs were pretty well-adjusted and healthy, but as can be expected with animals that have been rescued from abusive or neglectful situations, there were also occasional difficulties.  All of the love and work Sandy puts in the shelter was always really inspiring to me in those situations, and I think that really motivated all of us when something could be hard to see, hear about or deal with.  
I learned a lot from this experience and definitely left a little piece of my heart there too.
