Hello from Haida Gwaii, formerly the Queen Charlotte Islands!

We are two professional artists living in one of the most remote parts of the world.
Our little house is almost 100 years old, and we could use help with painting, shop organization, yard work, or structural work such as rebuilding fences and shelving!

We live in a small town with simple groceries, a hardware store, a gas station, and 1-3 restaurants, depending on the time of year. It is very isolated. The town is a 20-minute walk in, and 20 minutes out. We live right on the ocean. You can borrow our truck if you have a driver's licence.

We have a private upstairs area with a washroom and a tub. You can see the ocean from your bedroom window.

    Food:
We are happy to exchange meals for work according to the community standards here in Workaway. We eat primarily local meat and fish as our family hunts.

Haida Gwaii is one of the most remote places on the planet. The biodiversity here is endless. It's primarily outdoorsy people. The community is a mixture of mostly Haida and some non-indigenous people, with many fascinating folk not interested in cities.

This fishing and nature community is physically remarkable, ocean-bound has many rivers, and many things to do if you love the natural world!

    Ayuda

We seek self-motivated people to help with endless yard and home projects. Experience in caring for homes and yards and dealing with tools is critical. This is a rainforest, so during summer months, many outdoor yard and home care tasks happen. We need hard workers who enjoy looking at a task and problem-solving rather than waiting for direction. We work hard and will not be around to supervise much, so people who enjoy seeing a task that needs to be done and tackling it are welcome. We are good cooks, and you can cook too if you like.

We cannot accommodate specialty dietary restrictions as we do not have specialty stores here. This is a rugged, simple living community.

I speak French and Spanish, but I am rusty right now as I only use English. I would love to have a French or Spanish speaker here to practice those languages and help the person with English. I speak only a few key phrases of my Indigenous language (Onkwehonkwe) and would welcome a Haudenausaune speaker here to learn from. Also my ancestral languages are Dutch and German, which I would also like to learn.

  • Alojamiento

    Alojamiento

We have a spare room with a washroom. It’s a private space upstairs in the house. We are happy to share and offer our kitchen and meals in accordance with the standards here on this site.
For a more relaxed exchange, we can offer one meal a day, 5 days a week, in exchange for no more than 15 hours work per week. We are flexible and want you to enjoy Daajing Giids!

  • Algo más...

    Algo más...

Time off here is the natural world. We are close to incredible hikes, rivers and campgrounds. There are no movie theatres or malls and stuff like that here, but there are a handful of little restaurants and good grocery stores. There are lots of artists here, too.
