We live on a small farm outside Odiaxere, in the west Algarve. Over the years, we have enjoyed an ever-changing and growing volunteer family.
We've hosted volunteers from around the world, and enjoy receiving ongoing emails from our workaway friends, many of whom have returned more than once.
Initially, we worked with rescue horses, but now we only have one dog and one cat. All the horses have been re-homed, and our focus is on making the farm self-sustaining, and getting it ready for more rescue animals, such as chickens, pigs, and horses!
In the past, we also had workshops in painting, qigong, singing, belly-dancing, and more, and it is our goal to start doing workshops again, and making them affordable and available to everyone.
To do that, we need to make the farm self-sustaining- we need a good, productive garden, a chicken coop and run, and comfortable places for people to sleep and cook.
We think this goal is attainable with your help, and we look forward to welcoming you into our volunteer family. Come and bring your ideas and your enthusiasm, and let's make it happen together!Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Here's what we need:
GARDENING:
Help with restoring the vegetable garden. Last year we had no water, and then we were away for an extended period of time. Now only the weeds have survived!
Maintenance of the garden, once established.
Help with renewing the greenhouse. It needs some new plastic installed, and the weeds removed.
Help planting trees, with the goal of creating a food forest. We have oranges, lemons, apricots, figs, walnuts, almonds, and grapes already, and they need watering and maintaining until well-established.
ARTISTIC TASKS:
Paint the outside of two camper vans, in an interesting design.
Your landscaping ideas and help to beautify the garden in front of the house.
Murals, mosaics, paintings, and sculptures would be fun! We provide the materials, you create the art!
BUILDING TASKS:
Help creating comfortable sleeping area in two vans. Both are empty and ready for your ideas.
Build a simple platform/deck around the vans, using wooden pallets and scrap wood, rocks, etc.
Finish construction of a chicken coop (80% complete) and create a chicken run to keep the chickens safe from predators.
Repaint the bottom of the swimming pool, to fill and enjoy this summer.
Create an outdoor shower area.
Create an outdoor composting/dry toilet solution.
Create an outdoor kitchen/dining space beside the pool.
Help build platforms for tents and yurts.
HOUSE:
Daily upkeep, light housekeeping
If you can help with any of the above, we welcome you!

The nearest villages are Odiaxere and Mexilhoeira Grande. Both are about a 20 to 30 minute walk from the farm. There are a few little shops and cafes in both towns, and an Italian pizza place in Odiaxere, which does take-away.
We are about 11 km. from Portimao, and 8 km. from Lagos.
The local bus stop is about a 10 minute walk, and buses to Odiaxere, Lagos, and Portimao are frequent. The train station in Mexilhoeira Grande is 2.8km. away. There are trains and buses that go all along the Algarve to Spain.
We have bicycles for your use.
We also offer occasional full-day outings to points of interest. Tell us where you would like to go, and we can arrange some day trips!
We are 50 minutes from Faro airport, and 3.5 hours by bus from Lisbon.
