Start tasks early, finish early then begin your adventures explore many nearby walking trails across the street, or walk to more challenging mountain biking trails, swim in Shuswap lake (bus ride to lovely beach,) Salmon Arm has been refereed to as the music capital of BC. Home of the famous Roots & Blues music festival in July, (there is a Bluegrass festival as well) music in the park every Wednesday in Salmon Arm and Thursdays in Blind Bay.

We are on 10 secluded country acres, yet close to everything - 5 min drive to downtown, within walking distance 45 -60 min to downtown, or a 10-15min walk for a $3 bus ride to town.

    Here is a list of the variety of tasks we have for helpers to choose from based on their skills and the type of work they feel comfortable doing;

    a) If you are a handyman or like to do Renos and construction work, we have projects of all kinds. Lots of spare
building materials and wood should you enjoy creating something useful. Let us know what you love to do and I bet
we can find a job just for you!

    b) If you love to garden, you won't be bored.. large veggie garden that lacks attention this year - planting, weeding, and
watering to do. We have over 300 dahlias that love daily attention!

    d) if you have mechanical skills you enjoy, and love to tinker and solve problems.. get things running.....we have a
couple of older cars and a tractor. I think one car is a 1995 4 door Thunderbird, another is 4 door Toyota Corolla, I'd l
like to get cleaned up and for those that know their stuff with much older cars, we have a 1956 Ford wagon - that
runs, and almost ready to put on the road!!

    e) If you like working on tractors, we have one that could use a tune up. Someone let it run out of diesel, so needs lines
bled and more fuel - then will run again.

    d) When it gets too hot outside, there is always cleaning and organizing in the very cool workshop/garage (your room
and living space is clean and will be cool, comfortable, and quiet.

    f) PLEASE let us know your do-it-yourself skills as we have lots of little jobs, depending on your skill level.

Start early to avoid the heat, and have more fun in the sun! If we are able, will drop you off at the beach after your work is done. Bus service available if we are not able.

Note; - If you prefer to use your skills, for a project that interests you, please let us know and we can discuss. In this
area, you should be 100% confident in doing and working on your own.

*** Let us know what your passion is when it comes to projects, and we will let you know what we have for you to
work on to see if it is right for you. Tools available

Important for Helpers to know,,,,,,,, you will need to be independent and self-motivated. We are seeking workers that are sincerely honest about the hours of work they do, and are not just looking for a free place to stay.

Lots to experiences in and around the small town of Salmon Arm or hiking in the woods, hit the beach (rent beach toys) recreation centre, gym, tennis courts, community pool/gym/hot tub/steam room, golf course, disc golf, bowling, etc - see further below on all the town has to offer.

We have been hosting travelers since 1995 ( on and off ) and are so appreciative of the many self-motivated, independent workawayers helping us. It has been a fun ride!

Salmon Arm sits on the edge of Shuswap Lake, surrounded by mountains, with endless hiking and biking trails.

We are in the country yet a 5 min drive to town, or 60 minute walk, closer walk to other amenities such as; groceries (Askews uptown), pub (Setters), 24hr gym, hot tub and indoor pool at SASCU Recreation Centre, Home Restaurant, Tim Hortons in about 30 - 40 min. walk.

We are on the city bus route so getting to town or more and more hiking trails - is very easy - you can look up the schedule by searching Salmon Arm transit. About a 10min. walk to bus stop.
'e-bus' will bring you to Salmon Arm from the B.C. Coast, Alberta, or airports - check out e-bus online.

There are lovely walking trails all the way into town. We are next to Little Mountain Park with beautiful forested trails for easy hiking. The top, is a 15 min walk, very easy, with views of all of Salmon Arm as well as the vastness of Shuswap Lake. Chances are, you won't get to walk all the trails Salmon Arm has to offer, - so many. Search Shuswap Trail Alliance for maps.

See below under 'What Else' things to do and see in the area, and what to do on your time off.

Your room is located on the lower-ground-level of the house, so it is cool when hot outside. You have your own private entrance, and driveway. (we are upstairs). It is a complete self-contained suite downstairs (approx 1200 sq.ft) so you will have access to a full kitchen to prepare your meals also a living room, bathroom, and dining room.

Lots of handyman projects here .... a few things to consider......

Will be selling the home, so if you have skills that would help in that direction - please let us know otherwise lots to do in the Veggie gardens, flower gardens, etc

Are you a 'handyman' capable of independently taking on do-it-yourself projects - if so, please share details of what you are confident in doing on your own and we will do our best to accommodate.

Do you love to organize, clean, do household books?

Do you have gardening experience? if so, what have you done in the garden/yard?
Do you have creative skills - if so, please share what you love to do. Can you build anything?

Needing someone to list items on Marketplace, or help to get together a Garage Sale, gearing into downsizing and possibly selling the property....so lots to do in regards to all that.

Handyman help: - needs to be confident doing tasks on their own.
~ repairing around home and garage
~ creative building of an additional shower (tiling or ?) to accommodate more future workawayers?

~IF you have carpentry skills and would like to use them, just ask - open for discussion based on what we have to do
and what experience you have, and if you are able to work independently.

Your room is located in our guest suite on the lower-ground-level of the house, with it's own entrance. - and driveway..... (we are upstairs) .

The suite has a full kitchen for you to prepare your meals, a living room and dining room. It is approx 1200 sq ft and could be shared with another helper or a rental guest from time to time. It is a lovely cool space to escape from the heat.

You will cook your own meals unless you don't cook - or hate it....then we can chat.
We have found that many love to have the freedom to do their own thing. All too often fresh foods are not used and go to waste as there are so many with specialized diets and preferences.
Let us know if you prefer to cook and purchase all your own food for less time working... no promises, but will consider.
We do supply basics but you are responsible for your own snacks, beverages and meat - if you eat it.

    What to do around town:

There is a bus service in town, and the local bus stop is a 10-15 min. walk from the house. I think about $3 and will take your right downtown, to the malls, or to the beach. There is also transportation to some of the surrounding smaller towns for you to explore or enjoy their beaches.

You can also walk to town along the backroads or take the trails through the woods all the way to town...it is about 40 minute walk - all down hill, so you might want to take a bus back up!

Closer than walking to town is a large grocery store, local pub, HOME restaurant, 24 hour gym indoor swimming pool/hot tub/steam room (exercise room included) and shooting range.

Do a couple of searches on your computer for:
    THINGS TO DO.....
    Search -
a). Shuswap Trail Alliance - as it has a website with maps of many surrounding trails and group activities.

    b) friam.ca it is our very small newspaper as it will list all the events here and surrounding small communities! Local n
news that will give you a good sense as to all the interesting events a whole page of community events.

c). Tuesdays the cinema movie theatres cost you only $5- Search Salmar Theatres
We have the Salmar Classic on Alexander St. and then the Salmar Grand with 4 movie theatres. Website includes
    trailers.

Thursdays ~ Jazz nights - free (by donation) amazing concerts that are every 2nd Thursday,

Karaoke here in Salmon Arm at local pub, Crown & Anchor also at:
Grindrod's Riverside Pub Thursday nights, which also has free darts and pool and is along the river.

If you have a vehicle every Saturday evening at the numerous little surrounding communities there are Coffee Houses,/ Open mic... where local and visiting musicians get up and play their stuff. Have had musicians that come through town and join in - you just sign up to get on the list when you arrive - I hear some pretty significant jam sessions are held privately after the audience leaves.

The Night Cafe ~ is a fun little bar/cafe/art studio/ food & pizza place that attracts artists and musicians. Go for
coffee/drinks/meet locals or, book an painting lesson. Food offered are mini pizza's, kale Caesar salad,
brisket and more plus crepes and desserts too. Art Studio is called Meikle Studio - do a search or if you
want to sign up for an art lesson.

Art Gallery - first Friday of the month has an open house where they introduce the artist of the month and offer snacks
and drinks, sometimes a small little sing-along happens around the grand piano afterwards.

    There are 5 pubs -
Barley Brew Pub, Crown & Anchor, Setters Pub, and Don Cherry's bar, a Legion, lots of restaurants- Mexican, Thai, East Indian, Chinese and lots more.. Canooligans, is a lively 'young-persons' pub near Canoe Beach.

Walking distance to Salmon Arm Golf Course - can walk to the restuarant/patio for food and drinks, several other nearby Golf Courses.

    Bowling Alley,
    Gun Club
    Markets and Craft Sales
    Casino
    Smaller shopping malls
    Gyms
Indoor pool, hot tub and gym all in one very reasonable price at the SASCU recreation Centre, and yup can walk there.

    GETTING AROUND
Salmon Arm is within a 15 – 25 min drive to approx. 6 other small communities to explore with beaches, rivers, waterfalls, skiing and hiking trails. Pretty central here.

Close to lots of activities, on bus route, and bike available.

    SURROUNDING TOWNS AND SITES
If you have a car then exploring is endless.

Sicamous, Grindrod, Enderby, Blind Bay, Sorrento, are all smaller towns than Salmon Arm and
    within a 15 - 30 min. drive.

If you have a vehicle, there is so much to explore in the mountains as well as surrounding small communities.
Sorrento, Blind Bay, Sicamous, Enderby, Armstrong ( 20-30 min away)
    Vernon (40 min)
Revelstoke, Kelowna, Lumby, Westbank, Chase, Kamloops, Falkland (45 min-1hour)

We are 1/2 way between Banff and Vancouver and those travelling between these two places will most likely pass through Salmon Arm.

    Reiterating....in summary :
Salmon Arm sits on the edge of Shuswap Lake, surrounded by mountains, with endless hiking and biking trails. We are in the country yet a 5 min drive from town, or 40 min. walk.
