I am working to increase food security on a small acreage on the coast of British Columbia, Canada. I am an experienced gardener, but not farmer. Given the state of our world I think it is important to work with the most sustainable methods and so I am trying to figure out regenerative methods... While I would prefer people who know about permaculture, etc, there is also a lot of hard work just to maintain the space for this develop. I am a scientist, grandmother, author, activist.

The property is near a local in a fishing village, a short ferry ride from the larger island of Vancouver Island. It is surrounded by ocean with species of whales, sea otters, salmon and more. I am scientist who has studied the whales and the salmon. The community here is well populated with artists, fishermen, loggers.
Ayuda
I am looking for people who would enjoy the physical labour required to create a farm. Massive pulling of small trees, weeding, harvesting for market garden, and hopefully creativity around off-grid projects.

Alojamiento
The accommodation is a tiny house built into a large truck. It is a beautiful space all natural wood, a tiny woodstove and a propane cookstove. It is located in a field frequented by deer. The property is off grid (solar) so power use is limited, no hair dyers :)! The water supply is limited, so no long showers, drinking water will be provided in containers, same as in the main house. There is an outhouse. A family of 4 lived in the tiny house for 5 years. It is comfortable with a double bed, loft, table and counters. There are 2 large gardens with food available. This is on a small island of about 700 residents. There is very good small local market that is small, well stocked with vegan, organic and other options. The town is 25 km from the site via a well maintained road.

This area is a tourist destination. People visit to see whales, fish for salmon, kayak, camp and bike. Town is 20 minutes away by car down a dirt road. The community is friendly and familiar with Work Away so rides should be easily arranged when I am not heading into town. There is only one restaurant open some days, but not for dinner. The island is ringed with cobblestone beaches. Sea otters, seals, eagles, sea lions are easily visible from the beach.
