  So far Ive only had one workaday volunteer! So no reviews yet to encourage you.... But I really need a hand, and Im sure anyone that comes here, will love it! I have a solo Land Project here in the Stunning foothills of the Serra de Estrela, on the edge of the Rio Alva Valley. I bought this place almost 5 years ago, and living alone, have been slowly transforming the old Granite ruin into a cosy habitable dwelling. Its been hugely empowering, but not an easy task, to do this by myself, ( employing help where necessary), learning all the time while doing my best to honour the land, managing it using permaculture and re-wilding principles. I try to approach everything holistically, using whatever materials are around on the land, or priced reasonably locally. As much as possible using ecological, and affordable materials.
  I feel like I inherited such a gift, purchasing this land, its such a paradise... a paradise that needs love and care. Its the kind of a place perfect for a retreat. Most of the family and friends that have visited here have found alot of healing, and insight for their lives. It is my intention for the future to provide such a space, focusing on holding space for women's solo retreats. ( but not excluding men either!).
  
  I am 47 and single with no children. I love walking, hiking, yoga, meditation, bushcraft and nature connection, folk music, world music, and dance as a form of release and expression. I enjoy guitar playing and singing. I grow some but not all of my own food, I like foraging wild foods, preserving, and crafting, woodcarving too. It would be lovely to invite folk with similar interests to be here, preferably non smoking and non drinking, to keep with the integrity of this being a healing space.
  
  Ideally, I am looking for a volunteer who already has some knowledge and practise of DIY, building and gardening / land management skills, although for the right person not entirely necessary. You will also enjoy your own space, as well as time spent working together and eating together. At this time, I can only host one volunteer at a time.
  
  examples of projects here: Garden improvements and maintenance, harvesting and preserving, building a woodshed and outdoor kitchen, building an outdoor bathroom, building a second compost toilet, remodelling the caravan, making a deck in the shade (for siestas of course!), re-digging water channels to feed the land, bramble clearance!, tree pruning, general land clearing, trimming, mosaic making, and more! even on a small piece of land there is lots to do, but its a beautiful place to do it.
  
  I can provide a simple but delicious and nutritious vegetarian or vegan diet. I do occasionally eat meat, so you need to be ok with that. Accommodation is camping, in a lovely 4 metre bell tent, although if you have a camper 7metres or under, there is a spot for that. Ideally you have your own transport so you can be independent.
  Work exchange is typically 4-5 hrs a day, mon - fri with weekends off. (we share cooking). I will be happy to show you some of the amazing wild places in the area, the amazing river beaches, go hiking together, and include you in community events when they happen. Often friends host a music gig on their farm, or a pizza night, there is plenty of socialising to be done if you want it!
  A typical stay is 1 - 2 weeks, but could be longer for the right person.

  I think I said all this in my description above, but I can help you with learning more about Off grid life, growing veggies, making music together, crafting.
  I will be happy to show you some of the amazing wild places in the area, the amazing river beaches, go hiking together, and include you in community events when they happen. often friends host a music gig on their farm, or a pizza night, there is plenty of socialising to be done if you want it!

  the Accommodation is camping, in a lovely 4 metre bell tent, close to the veggie garden with wonderful mountain views, although if you have a camper 7metres or under, there is a spot for that - also with a wonderful view. Ideally you have your own transport so you can be independent.
  Its worth saying that i have only a tiny solar system, with capacity for lighting, and charging mobile phones / computers only. I also have limited wifi here ( I like it that way ) but will do regular trips to town (or local river beach cafe with wifi).

  This is an amazing area for mountain walking and wild swimming, and nature immersion. 40 mins from two mountain lakes, 5 mins from a gorgeous river beach, 10 km from two towns, for all amenities.
  there are Yoga classes also within 30mins, and paddleboard hire which is super fun! Horseriding within 30minutes. There is also a spa just 15mins drive away, if you want to relax those muscles in a sauna or warm mineral pool.
